What do you smell like?

I love perfumes and from the day I was able to afford them, made it a habit of trying out different ones till finally one day I found a perfect match. The review is not only about perfumes, rather its about stuff like colongnes and after shave lotion that smell.

The Early Days

The first perfume I used was something called Brut, it had a very musky smell and it was gifted to me from one of my cousin who was working at Muscat. I love it a lot, the green bottle with a chain and all that jazzy stuff, but the quality was poor and the smell rarely did linger. Brut is currently available in India as well.

When I started shaving, I ventured in the land of Old Spice thanks to my Dad and the milliary canteens where it was readily available. I loved the Musk flavour more then the Lime or classic and man it was a really loud one. I lost interest in Old spice and tried out the Blue Stratos or something that used to come in a cute blue bottle, I loved this one, it had a very nice and different smell. Both of these were expensive compared to the standards, and had to use it quite carefully. Also, I discovered the Eue De Colongne from Yardley, didn't know what to use it for cos it had somewhat funny smell.

Serious Smells

When I started working, I used to have couple of deo's with me and use to use them interchanably, the popular ones were of-course the Denim and the Gillette, Gillette with the crazy names like Wild Rain and Cool Wave caught my imagination, and even the fundoo ads of Old Spice on Tv didnt succeed in steering me away from Gillette

When I started travelling, I realised that I need something different, somethin that linger's with you through out the day, and I bought Fareinheit by Christian Dior. Now this one comes in a blood red bottle and cost around 30-35 Pounds when I bought it in Heathrow airport, and loved the Manly and smelled'hot' that it had, but the'lingering' effect was not there, I mean the smell lasted only for 4-5 hours and then it just disappeared.

I wanted something different the second time I travelled, I was in Hungary and in the hotel lobby there was a gift show where in along wiht the chocolates was display of a range of perfumes by Trussardi, came in a very attractive bottle and smelled ok and the girl behind the counter said that it suits me so I bought the Trussardi Umo, whatever that meant, I can't even pronounce the stuff. It was bloody expensive(Around 3500Rs!) cos the girl cajoled me to buy the biggest bottle and it was a bloody waste of money, after going to the room when I smelled it again, I didn't like it a bit!, so guys when you buy something make sure you like it and don't go by the word of the pretty girl behind the counter.

Then I discovered Romance by * Ralph Lauren*, it had everything I wanted, it has a very distinctive smell, people used to ask me In Slovakia and London whether am wearing Romance and used to last long, almost priced the same at Fareinheit. It was my favorite for one whole year. Its a pretty good perfume, guys who have not used it can certainly go for it without any apprehensiion, most suited for the workplace. Cost around 50 USD.

The couple of new ones came along, Pleasures For Men by Estee Lauder, which my Girlfriend gifted me, which was too fruity and kiddish for my taste, and is around 30-60 USD for 100 ml, depending on where you are buying it from. At Kuwait it costs around 18 Kuwaiti Dinars(1 KWD= 3 USD)

When I went to Korea, bot a bottle of Hugo Dark Blue by Hugo Boss which I love to wear when I go out for a party or movie, the smell is full-bodied with a tinge of Indian Ginger I think, and hey it comes in a very attractive blue bottle, cost around 45 USD.

The End

Man, it has become a very long review, hope Iam not boring you guys and gals. Now, I realised that sometimes the after shave lotion or the smell that the shaving cream leaves being clashes with the smell of the perfume am waring, and it led me towards a complete range of products, which is available in india and also aborad, the answer was Eternity by Calvin Klein, both the After Shave lotion and the perfume are available even in Pantaloons Chennai, and both cost around 2500 Rs. Bit expensive for a after shave lotion right? But if you need perfection you need to pay a price as well, that's how I justify my extragavence. I now use Eternity which my girlfriend loves and pretty nice and soft odour which is not very flashy and very refined. Do give it a try also.

My personal favorite would be Romance though, it has a very distinctive smell, different from other ones and I would love to wear it anyday.

Hope you found the review helpful.

Peace

Ranjith
