The incidence of obesity is increasing every year and more and more people are overweight. The obese individuals are at a high risk for development of cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and also stroke. The cause is very complex and has genetic association too. So I will deal about some of the preventable factors/risk factors for obesity and thus prevent obesity.


1) Eating habbits has very much affect on occurance of obesity. Preference of fast foods, sweets and fatty food is an impoetant cause.


2) Physical inactivity or lack of physical exercise is also an important factor to consider. Regular physical activity has got very much protective effect against obesity. It is not necessary to go to gym for physical activity. Daily morning walk/jogging or mild exercise like jumping can be very effective.


3) Smoking and alcohol also posses an important risk for development of obesity.


4) Psychological factors too play a great role. Overeating can be a symptom of depression, anxiety, frustration and loneliness.


5) Consumption of foods rich in dietary fibre( fruits, green leafy vegitables) has very much protective effect against obesity. Dietary fibre not only helps in proper digestion but also provides a feeling of satiety and thus overeating can be prevented.


6) Obese individuals should go for regular checkup for cardiovascular status especially after 50 years.
