After a comfortable and cozy life for almost two years at home, a child gets to spend a large part of his/her time at school. This is a very big change for the child and it takes a while before his fears of being away from home are allayed.
These days, little children go to a playschool before they are three years old and then go to a nursery, so they do have a little exposure to the outside world at a very young age
Nursery lasts longer than a playschool, so toddlers get to spend a major part of their time away from home. The environment at the nursery should be one that encourages the child to want to stay there. For this, the nursery should be so designed as to attract the children and motivate them to come back.
Colours impact the children and this can be proved by the fact that a child as young as 3 months old is attracted by colourful objects. So a nursery should have colourful furniture without sharp edges to protect the children from getting hurt. Colours like sunshine yellow and blue-green may be used for the furniture as they are believed to have a stimulating effect on the children.
Walls should be colourful too with beautiful wall art preferably with pictures of fruits and vegetables and alphabets. Children learn very easily through visual media, so this would be beneficial in their social and intellectual development.
Floors could be covered with a soft carpet or rug so as to facilitate safe movement for the little ones.
To sum it up, a nursery should have a child-friendly atmosphere where the children have fun and love to play and learn.
