hiii folks
my this review is all about the very favourate cola drink of indians.the very own refreshing "THUMS UP".despite of many cola brand we indian still had a gr8 faith on this drink.
by thinking thums up we sudden of all recalll
-gr8 smell
-gr8 strong taste
-gr8 indian connection(although now its wid coke.yet was of parle in initial days till 1993)
-the evrgreen fun, friends n thums up slogan of 80s which was latter changed to taste the thunder in 90s
etc.
THUMS UP was always special 2 indian masses.
be it the era of all indian brands in 70s or 80s or the present era of coke n pepsi.
THUMS UP had maintained its distinctiveness through its distinct taste.which makes it different from other colas even that from MNC's.
the strong brand equity of thums up is clear cut example n symbolic of the strong edge of thumsup in indian context.
thumsup was infact originated in 1977 in the times when morar ji govt had baNNED coke fROM ITS INDIAN OPERATIONS.this gave an incubation of business idea in minds of chauhan's of parle 2 enter in the cola segment n catter then uncompetive market after the exit of COKE from india.
as a result the chauhan's taking a lesson from COKE's portfolio had launched
-thums up.in cola category wid aimed @ combating campa cola(then available other popular cola drink)
-limca.in refreshing limeony flavour(un competitive till 90s when pepsi co introduced mirinda)
-gold spot-.aimed to cater the fanta lovers of 70s
-maaza.a basicly mango drink of all seasons
initially these drinks were available in 250 ml bottle in 80s
since 15 long years these parle products had njoyed their success.when pepsi enterd in india.
sudden of all the whole dynamics had changed .
the parley's realised that indian market is no more conservative one.so despite of creating a powerful vibe against MNC'S RAMESH CHAUHAN HAD DECIDED 2 SOLD OFF their soft drink entity 2 coke.
sudden of all the whole dynamics changed @ all.
yesterdays thums up was a victim to coca cola's unparralleled expansion plans.
now thums up was controlled n its flavcour too was changed so that indian people can soon forget it on the wake of coca cola.
but hey here MNC was wrong such gimmicks of coke 2 promote coca cola on cost of thums up had helped its rival pepsi in terms of market capitalization.
coke realized its fault now.
as a result
.more focus on thums up as it were cokes own brand
.limca as main stay lemmon flavour drink of coke for indian operations
.gold spot was clashed wid fanta an as a result was stopped
.maaza was continued to take its erstwhile brother frooti
thums up brand connection wid people has paid its dividend
coke again created an stirr in india wid thums up n limca.pepsi is clearly no.2
critics stilll complain change in thums up taste in comparison wid parle days.
yet it stilll is distinguishable from coke n pepsi.
my views in end.>>>>>>
I personally think thumsp is among few gr8 indian brand which had created a niche image of their own.their identity remains unaffected by MNC take over.
I remeber my childhood days in 1990s when its advertizement was found in my brother university campus.fun friend .thums up(which nowdays is tagline of coke india) or taste the thunder.n an masculanity attached wid this drink:)
see the classical advertizement of thums up in 80s in f which gavaskar n imran khan are side by side endorsing thums up:)
it was really different n strong those days.may be coz of carbon dioxide content in high proportion.
it was our favoourate drink then.
was a cure from gas trou
latter in 1997 it starts coming in sum wat different taste .yet was different fron coke.
infat.i saw many filmstars endorshing coke but not thums up:)may be so as to give more attention to coke's own brand.
but in 2000s.situation changed.action was backed wid akshay endorsement
since then no looking back.
recently I readed somewhere about coke's numero uno position just coz of this thums up n limca.really they must b proud of their acquisition of thums up:(
now they r planning 2 introduce thums up in other markets
my wishes to this indian origin brand 2 move ahead
