Bag Lady Of Bori Bunder trawls new depths in trash
I've been a reader of this newspaper (The Times Of India) for over 30 years but I think alas it's time to part ways now, My poor mono-chrome eyes can't take anymore of their garish Govinda layouts and the abyssmal quality of their ''news''.
Lets check out today's (8-March-2003) edition of the Times Of India, New Delhi Capital edition. v-a-vis their targeted competition
1) The Headline is ''Bacher Rejects India's Appeal'' .. the body reads ''Kenya posts fighting total'' and then goes on to say ''More Reports on pages 17 & 18..'', well on page 17 it seems that ''India were in dire straits at 29 for three in 11 overs''.
Too bad that my copy of the Hindustan Times (Delhi edn) same day has a headline ''Kenya Bring India back to earth'' and clearly informs me ( thats NEWS you dummies) that India won the match by 6 wickets and that captain Sourav Ganguly scored 107 not out.
The rest of the main stories on the TOI- front page are all pre-canned stories that could be written by a junior sub-ed in his sleep. ''Bollywood flicks the big Cup casualty'' reads the bottom leader Jet trainer takes off says another Laden sons arrested in Pakistan? more unconfirmed wishful thinking as TOI's tribute to the National Enquirer. This paper SUCKS big time on NEWS !!!
2) Now to the TOI's daily comedy section called the ''Delhi Times''.. You see you have to pay royalty to run comic strips so trust those sahu-jain lala's to come up with this comic in 8 pages edited (?) by Delhi's well known society glutton SSS.
The cartoon on todays page-1 of the DT has a bookie drawling Sachin is on the ait (?) tonight..., some sort of new coded odds Sabina?
The story on Pamela Anderson's visit to a gay night club (page 7 ENTERTAINMENT) reads Pammy's presence at Vienna's Opera Ball is supposed to brong(?) one of the highlights of the European social calender into disrepute.
A most lucid piece of prose if I ever saw one. what's next ? transgender brongs in vinyl throngs...
Page 8 of todays DT is entirely devoted to an aneroxic russian waif whose ''brongs'' are non-existent. Dear Sabina please cart this waif along to all those complimentary spreads you get to enjoy. We indians like our tandoori birds well stuffed.
3) Okay the HT isn't that much better, (half the front page is hogged by a schlocky Epilepsy advt for which the publishers of any other paper would have been behind bars).
BUT.. at least I get my basic news, reasonably true, and not a paid plug for society wannabees.
Thats all folks.. BTW I write all this online (real time) so please excuse any typos, devils etc. At least I don't get paid (other than my treasured Mouthshut.com cap) for these efforts.
