This is an Indonesian martial arts action movie directed by Gareth Evans, a welsh settled in Indonesia. To make it concise, the plot is about a police detachment raids a huge building controlled by a ruthless Gang lord, as the raid progressed covertly until their presence alerted and the building locked down.
The gang lord orders all rent paying residents in the building to intercept and kill them. The cops are outnumbered and outmatched. They cannot call for reinforcements because their raid is unauthorized and lieutenant who insisted upon this raid carries a dark secret that spells the remaining cops should die. Undauntedly they struggle to get out alive.
Unlike the Hollywood movies the most prominent feature of this film is “Less Gunfights” and more “Martial Arts”. The fight scenes are so well formulated that it matches in perfectly like Terries blocks. The fights have no fancy overblown CGI’s except lots of blood and gore. The savage deaths of good guys and thugs alike will make the eyes bleed. Also there is sentiment and compassion present in the move that’s also blends in pretty well.
Nothing much can be said about the cast as I don’t know any of them and they are Indonesians. The Agonist iko uwais is pretty cool guy with extreme fighting abilities. He picks his knife and just slices and pokes holes in the necks of the bad guys. He seems to have astronomical endurance in taking hell lot of beatings.
This is a brief let off from the annoying clichés and other onscreen bad*assry BS of Hollywood. The Dredd 3D is based on this film concept which may look phony compared this movie. Overall the film is full of thrills, fast phased action and pure entertainment. Go ahead and give it a try and you won’t get disappointed.
