Only through the imagination of an innocent child can the past and the present become one and the same.
It’s Halloween. The year is 1962. It’s a time when children were innocent, a time when that innocence was being preyed upon by a malicious deviate who enjoyed destroying the innocence of children. The place is Willowpoint Falls. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Willowpoint Falls is a town where everyone knows your name.
Willowpoint Falls is a town where the worst trouble a kid could get into is to ride his bicycle in someone’s freshly-poured, wet cement sidewalk.
Willowpoint Falls is also a town with a secret – a secret of which no one spoke and everyone tried to forget. It was a secret that, although happened many years earlier, would bring back the past and change the future forever. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a brisk October 31st.
The dismissal bell at Frankie Scarlatti’s school just sounded as his class finished their Halloween party.
Being typical boys, Frankie’s friends decide to make him the target of their practical joke – a practical joke that might just cost Frankie his life.
Tossing his hat on a high shelf in the coat closet, they pretend to help Frankie in his search. One by one, they quietly leave the closet and lock Frankie inside. Frankie is now alone in the darkened room.
He climbs on the shelf in order to look out the high window hoping to get the attention of someone who might be passing by.
Hours pass and no one comes. Almost no one!
As Frankie sits in the dark on the high shelf, he begins to hear a girl humming – and she’s coming directly toward the closet! He’s saved, he thinks.
Soon, he realizes this pretty little red haired girl, didn’t open the door to rescue him. She walked through the door.
Not understanding what he’s seeing, Frankie tries to wriggle himself back further on the shelf to hide.
The little girl sees him and smiles.
He watches as this pretty girl stops humming and turns to speak to someone Frankie can’t see or hear. Suddenly, he hears the little girl scream.
He hears a clinking sound – like the sound of something falling into a heat vent – then nothing. All is quiet.
What had he seen? What was that noise? Who was that girl and what happened to her?
Before he can get his thoughts together, he hears heavy footfalls coming in the direction of the closet. In the distance, he hears someone whistling the same tune the little girl was humming just before she screamed.
Instinctively, Frankie tries to hide himself further on the shelf. He hears the key turn in the lock and sees the closet door slowly open.
He’s terrified and tries to wish himself invisible. As quietly as he can, he pulls his Halloween mask over his face. Alas, he’s heard and the intruder looks up. Before Frankie can utter a word, he feels large, strong hands around his throat squeezing the life from his young body.
Suddenly, Frankie finds himself sitting in what seems to be a peaceful garden. The little red haired girl approaches him and sits on the soft grass. “Help me find my mommy” she pleads and points to the headstone behind Frankie. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can you feel the hairs on your arms rising yet?
Have you felt a tinge of hyperventilation?
Good, because I’m not going to tell you any more about the movie. What I will tell you is this: Lucas Haas has out-performed himself in this tension-packed saga of murder and mystery. Lucas Haas has out-performed the adults who costar with him in this awesome tale of ghostly apparitions.
For a spine-tingling treat, for those who love old-fashioned ghost stories, I would suggest seeing The Lady In White. It’s truly one of the best I’ve ever seen.
