Last year, I saw a powerful war film that really shook me and asked me a lot of questions that we never really dare to ask. The Hurt Locker directed by Kathryn Bigelow is one stunning piece of entertainment that not only tells us what happens to the soldiers who are always living a miserable life just to ensure that we civilians can sleep tight in our cozy comfortable beds. The very first 10 minutes of the movie is enough to keep you glued to your seats because it tells us how an EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team of United States Army works everyday in Iraq to ensure the safety of people in Iraq and what they get in return from the civilians there and from us as well. After watching The Hurt Locker, I saw Avatar in 3D and found it interesting technically but if you consider the script of both the leading movies than I was very much in favor of The Hurt Locker for not only entertaining us, but to also make us realize what war brings to us.

At one point of time when the Academy Awards ceremony was proceeding, I thought that now that both The Hurt Locker and Avatar have bagged 3 awards, it would be a tough competition between both of them and considering the popularity of James Cameron the jury would definitely make some bias decisions and let Avatar sprint ahead, but I was really surprised and happy to know that The Hurt Locker which is a very low budget independent film won 6 Academy Awards which clearly indicates that a good movie is not dependent on lavish sets and hi-fi technology, but it totally depends on a powerful script that would penetrate inside you to give you gooseflesh as you watch the movie. The Hurt Locker won the Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Picture and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow as she creates history by becoming the first women director to win the director award at the 82nd Academy Awards. The movie has already won 6 BAFTA awards including the Best Picture and Best Director award at the 2010 BAFTA Awards. It also swept away the Best Picture and Best Director award at the Golden Globe ceremony earlier.

In the end, I would like to say that those who have not seen The Hurt Locker please do see it because this war film hits like a sniper bullet, fast and hard.
