Hindustan Times was a Delhi paper. It may not be as old as the one from 'the lady of Boribunder' viz. the Times of India. But it is also quite old. Though while in Delhi we were subscribing to the Indian Express. I started reading TOI after I got displaced to Bombay and have done so for decades. Then I switched over to other newspapers. Recently I subscribed to Hindustan Times. Partly because it was offered at a great discount and I knew its history and tradition. I find the paper very good in almost all aspects. May be the first page is not sensational or one may say the Headlines are not the usual type.
But it has good coverage of science matters/news/world events/sports/even
controversial topics. Science coverage is particularly very good. Both news and information on some aspect or the other is well reported.
I once wrote a letter to the editor which was heavily cut (letters to the ED. are usually short and therefore edited) and my second letter on the article,'' .........Jehadi'', was not published.
Like the TOI, it also publishes lot of pictures of so called celebrities, from all over the world, in very scanty dresses in a separate tabloid style eight pages. On Thursdays and Sundays it issues magazines usually for and of high fashion society members, sometimes good achievers. But every newspaper and magazine has too much emphasis on glamour and party animals. Is it to arouse the curiosity/appetite of those who have nothing to do with these events and persons?
HT has also picked up in advertisements which are in large number now. All in all I like the paper and find it better than the Times of India and have overcome the hangover of TOI.
