Dear MSians,
Caught this movie on a late night show over the weekend.
Given Quentin's filmography, booked for this one though i'd no idea at all on the theme or whether it was worth a watch.
Basic premises remains the same as'Django Unchained'; assorted bounty hunters travelling across the country to catch / kill their targets and encash the reward. But that's where the similarity ends. While the former was fast paced and had some superb acting by Christoph Waltz et al, this one is an absolute slumber fest.
Samuel L Jackson is a black bounty hunter, who is caught without a horse in the middle of a blizzard out in the ranges and happens to hitch a ride with another of his ilk - Kurt Russel aka'The Hangman', who has commandeered a stagecoach to transport his prize catch, Ms. Leigh who has a prize of US$ 10000 on her head.
As the blizzard picks up pace, they are forced to take a night halt at an isolated facility, 'Minnie's Haberdashery'.
A total of eight assorted characters, nobody trusting the other, form the characters and the story shows the events of that one night.
The running time of 167 minutes and the plodding script, consisting almost entirely of inane exchanges for the major part of the movie, the desolate ice bound landscape, the muted out key words make for a a very, very disheartening watch.
Suffice it to say, if you have seen his earlier films and the indian'Kaante' which btw, was stylised and fast paced, though with an unbelievable plot line, you can safely give this one a miss and save precious three hours of your life.
