The movie wasn’t that scary when I watched it in the theatre. This movie is that kind of a movie which will keep you thinking, after you watch it. Trust me there will be a strange kind of an uneasy feeling after you watch this movie. A helpless feeling that hints the kind of feeling Emily Rose may have gone through.
I’ll give 2 perspectives of mine that I believe during different times- I call one “the gut feeling” and the other as ''forcefully practical''. You choose which one you would like to believe.
Emily rose is someone I believe most of us can easy relate to if we are strong believers of god. God works in strange ways or so is said. There is a scene where Emily approaches Mother Mary in the courtyard of her own house and asks her “why isn’t the evil spirit leaving”. And the reply she gets is what I believe the true sense of the movie! She replies saying that “people think god is dead! There is no much faith. The evil spirits won’t leave you. They are here to stay. You may choose to come along and your suffering shall end but the world won’t know of god through you then.” Emily chose to stay. Her story was then told to the world by the priest who conducted the Exorcism in the court room. By the way after her encounter with god Emily chose to stop the Exorcism.
On the other hand when we think practically, we may consider the entire story to be on the grounds of a girl’s beliefs. The very fact that she believed in all this could probably have been a mixture of her extreme beliefs in god and a case of psychosis. She had symptoms that were medical. But her mind wasn’t in agreement with it. All this has to be considered since it’s a real life based movie.
Any ways to conclude, its interesting to see the entire case being settled in a courtroom. The priest and his lawyer battle out the case against the public attorney in a classic practical Vs superstition dramatization. Acting is first-class no doubt. Emily’s story is told. The priest is found guilty by the jury but is acquitted stating “term served”.
I believe that this is a good movie. Worth a see. Not scary as the first exorcist movie but is a million times more meaningful than the initial one.
