It’s been after a longtime that I found myself watching the First Day First Show of a movie. Me and some colleagues from the Org. booked tickets y’day itself. Don’t know what driven us, Paul’s review boosted my spirit with 4.5 stars, and I patted myself for making a right choice although I was yet to watch the movie.

I believe movies like ‘The Dirty Picture’ TDP are best to watch in single screens esp. of UP and Bihar. What a fun it is to watch a movie like TDP in those lively environments! Claps are not enough, they deserve Whistles and shouts and comments of all manner (you know what I mean). So when I entered the multiplex, I thought It would be a silence affair. But the audience turned out to be extremely lively with shouts and whistles and dirty comments at almost every dialogue in the movie. Infact, it was my group that turned out to be the most dull people among all.

TDP starts with voice of Emran Hashmi narrating the tale of Reshma (Vidya Balan). Right from her childhood she dreams of becoming an actress and making it big in the glamour world of films. With this resolution she elopes on the night of her marriage and finds herself in the streets of Madras. But it’s only after many a days of despair and rejection and lots of struggle that she gets a chance to enact in a seductive song. That’s song turns out to be only hit thing in the otherwise flop movie and that’s how starts the Journey of Reshma as ‘Silk’ in the world of Madras Movies. She seduces her crush Surya (Naseerudin Shah) and gets to work with him. She gains popularity and then starts the rise of a star. But very few can cope up with the fame and the curse it brings. As they say “Every rise has to follow a fall” Silk becomes obsessive of her fame - and with other girl named Shakeela taking her place - starts the fall of Silk.

TDP is very bold film. At times, I wondered at the double meaning dialogues and Vidya’s audacious Seductive acts, thinking ‘what is this man!’ Me and my friends looked at each other with confused faces, But then I thought who cares..LetS enjoy.

First half is very entertaining and impressive and since it sets very high standards; the viewer finds the second half bit dragging; but it again picks up towards the end.. I only wish the tragic ending could have been changed.. but since it has to stick with the real tail.. No complain.

TDP belongs to Vidya Balan. She is the soul of this movie. I strongly believe that even Silk Smitha herself could not have done the job of reliving her own life on screen better than Vidya. I won’t say that its Vidya's best act, as with each of her movie people change their opinion; be it ‘Ishqiyq’ or ‘No one Killed Jessica’. At every scene she has done the justice to her character.. her dialogue delivery, her expressions, her body language everything impress the viewer. We all know what an actor Naseerudin Shah is! No word is enough to praise him. As Surya, he has given a good performance. It’s a sheer pleasure to his dialogue deliveries, but still I believe its nat a very demanding role and someone else could have easliy fit into it. Emraan Hashmi Impress a lot, at last he gets a role which is quite different from what he has done in most of his works. Tusshar Kapoor has got a small role but looks good. Anju Mahendroo, is getting more and more graceful and beautiful with age, has done her part good. One more actor that impress is – don’t remember the name – is one who helps Silk at start of her career. He has got quite a number of good Dailogues.

Coming to direction, Milan Luthria, has already proved his mettle with OUATIM and TDP will only uplift his status as one of the most rising and dependable director in Bollywood. I like the way his movies proceeds and dialogues his choose. Just like OUATIM, the main USP of TDP – other than Vidya, of Course! - is its dialogue. No matter what actors you have, it’s the dialogues that make audience get up and cheer, shout or whistle and TDP has many many and many of them e.g (“Agar tu Duniya ki Aakhri Ladki hoti na, to maine Nasbandi Karwa leta” or “Tumhe mere maathe par kya C likha dikhta hai kya jo tumhe shrab bhi pilau aur apni insult bhi karwau”). But going by the subject and theme of the movie lots of these dialogues are double meaning. So beware, and listen carefully !!

Music is great, esp. the background. Gave me the Déjà vu of OUATIM. Ishq Sufiyana is good but its OO lala that wins the race and finds a place in your heart. Be its composing, or the way Bappi has sung it or the way it has been shot on Vidya and Nasser, everything about it is excellent. No doubt you will find yourself humming it when you leave the hall.

They say that “Screenplay and Dialogues form the heart of a movie” going with that TDP has its heart at right place. Vidya is very very seductive, I never like the original Silk, but Silk enact by Vidya is of course a different affair and love her a great deal.

Watch TDP for Vidya, Nasseer, Milan, Background Music, Its dialogues and Ooo La la (Bappi Da Rocks).Watch with tapori friends, its not a family affair. I highly recommend TDP – Its full of Entertainment Entertainment Entertainment
