South Indian food fare has been really popular in Kolkata from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Restarurants, especially the South Kolkata big shots like Prema Vilas and Banana Leaf are crowd favorites and serve the tastiest of meals to gourmets.
The Chennai Restaurant has been a recent addition to this frenzy and they had quickly become popular with their innovative menu and quality cuisines at an affordable rate.
Located near Kalikapur crossing on the Prince Anwar Shah Road Connector Bypass, this restaurant was easily accessible and saw a sound footfall from people all over South Kolkata. Why I am saying "was" is that the restaurant recently closed for renovation. It opened a food counter in an IT company in Kolkata and thus people still got the taste of their great food. However, as per latest news the old location has been sold and a Head Turners saloon has opened there. Chennai Restaurant is looking for a new venue and we wish that they bounce back in no time!
Let us see what parts of the menu made them so popular in such a quick time:
=> Chicken Dosa: You have had Masala Dosa and Sada Dosa, but have you ever have a crispy Dosa wrapped around yummy spicy chicken? Giving your favorite Dosa a non-veg twist, this Chicken Dosa was a hot favorite and a superstar of this restaurant.
=> Egg Dosa: Egg Dosa or Muttu Dosa is another great food to savor with fried scramble eggs inside your crispy Dosa dough. Taste it and cherish it!
=> Cheese Uttapam: You can't say no to this South Indian Pancake with all it's crispyness, the sweet flavor of onion and tomato as per your preference. Now Chennai Restaurant added on Cheese to that and oh my god the result was amazing. It's really superb and finger licking.
=> Curd Rice: Your twangy curd rice has a tasty twist here with crispies been added on to it. It's sour and salty and light for your stomach too.
=> Vada and Idli: Vada and Idli are also nice, tasty, fluffy here. The sambhar and onion chutney are good too.
Chennai Restaturant also offers great Masala Dosa, Sada Dosa, Onion Uttapam and South Indian meals.
The sitting is comfortable, the food prices are cheap, the staff are clean and helpful.
Wishing Chennai Restaturant reopens soon and we all get a chance to have food their and Lungi Dance. Yaay, the Chennai Way!
