In the novel, even Alchemy, the central symbol of the book, entails coaxing metal to achieve its own personal legend to turn into a goal. As a result, the idea that all individual should live in singular pursuit of the individual dreams emerges as the primary theme of this book. The Alchemist is one philosophical book which tells us never to lose hope. The secret is perhaps based on that. It teaches us that when a person really desires something, then the whole universe will conspire to help that person realize his dreams. An allegorical novel the book follows a young Andalusian shepherd Santiago in his journey to the Egyptian pyramids having a recurring dream of finding a treasure there. Believing a recurring dream to be prophetic, he asks a Romani fortune teller in a nearby town the meaning of his recurring dream. The woman interprets the dream as a prophecy, telling the boy that he will discover the treasure at the Egyptian pyramid. To meet the cost of travel to Egypt, the Santiago shepherd has to sell his sheep. In Africa this Santiago is robbed of his money, he got from selling his sheep. He then works for a crystal merchant and makes enough money to go to Egypt and chase his dreams. On his way, Santiago fall in love with an Arabian girl Fatima and proposes. She promises to do so only after he completes his journey. Santiago then encounters a wise Alchemist who also teaches him to realize his true self. Finally, they risk a journey in the territory of the warring tribe where Santiago is forced to demonstrate his oneness with the soul of the world. Then he is allowed to proceed. When he begins digging within the sight of Pyramid, he is robbed but learns accidentally from the leader of the thieves that the treasure he is seeking was all the time in the ruined church where he had the original dream. The main theme of this book is one has to undertake an inside journey to realize his personal goals and Paul Coelho has inspired people all over the world to live their dreams.
