Tehzeeb - a 'critic' breaks the rules
I never expected to write this review. Infact I never wanted to write such a review. But I just saw Tehzeeb ...I know a bit too late.... inspite of all the negative feedback I got & after reading countless reviews ...I was somehow convinced that this was a Khalid Mohamed film and it had to be good. Few minutes into the film and I immediately realised that all the feedback I got about the movie was true. 'Tehzeeb' was most definitely not what I expected it to be. I had extremely HIGH expectations from the movie. And why not? The maker of the movie is Khalid Mohamed. Yes...the same critic with an acid pen. He has torn apart many a movie and shredded them into pieces as if he was chopping onions. But when the same guy goes on to make a lousy movie like 'Tehzeeb'...what can one say?? Yes people...hard to believe but 'Tehzeeb' sucks. To begin with the Rishi Kapoor part is shown in a very abrupt manner. There is absolutely no flow in it and this is visible time and again at various points in the movie. The songs pop in from nowhere. Trust me when I say this especially Na na na... . An amazing song like ''Meherbaan'' is ruined just because of this. The movie is bascially full of separate moments which have been lousily combined together. The scenes and the dialogues appear as if they have written on the sets. The choreography atrocious. Urmila ,while watching her mom sing Meherbaan on her TV at her home , suddenly lands up in a bath-tub on the beach dancing to its tunes! The songs are tuneless. I wonder whats wrong with A R Rahman?? The only relief in the movie are the confrontation scenes between Shabana Azmi and Urmila Matondkar.
CAST : Diana Hayden's performance is absolutely useless. She cannot speak 'a' word in Hindi properly. I wonder why she was even cast? It was role tailor made for Kashmira Shah. Not only her acting , the things that her character does in the movie is absolutely illogical.
Namrata Shirodkar : Why on earth was her character included? & Why on earth that song? But Namrata does a fine job of it.
Diya Mirza : Lost all hopes on this girl. She just cannot act. She infact irritates one with her acting. She supposedly plays the role of a mentally challenged girl..with perfect make-up , perfect lipstick , well combed hair & a doll.
Arjun Rampal : The supposedly Mr.Sweet,Funny,Nice & Caring husband is good at times & at times artrificial.
Urmila Matondkar: Did I recommend her name as the 'Best Actress' in my first review? She is over the top throughout the movie. Her take on many actors is highly artificial. She is good only in the confrontations scenes.
Shabana Azmi: The only reason if anybody chooses to watch this movie. First-rate,awesome,perfectly nuanced performance. A pleasure to watch on screen. Just cannot get enough of her in the movie. Definitely an award winning performance.
