I have used TataSky DTH since over 6 months. Quality of reception is very good compared to that of cable TV. However, it has a major drawback in that the mini-dish fails to catch signal from transponders of satellite even during slight showers and the TV goes blank. The program comes back when rain subsides but in the monsoon of Mumbai, these waits are very long as I saw recently during heavy rains over two days.
TataSky firstly does is shy of responding to emails on the subject as it does not want to own up the shortcoming. On telephone, it communicated that they are aware of the problem and their R&D team is working on it! DTH is not a new technology. Murdoch's Direct TV uses smaller dish which works even during snow storm! Instead of wasting time/money on R&D efforts, let them consult Direct TV.
I have reverted to cable TV even after paying in advance for TataSky. TataSky does not respond to these uneasy complaints and will skin consumers. that's the after sale service even from a prestigious Tata company. Star will not dare ill treat paid consumers in Western countries but in India it cares two pence for consumers.
Customers opting for DTH, specially in Mumbai, must obtain guarantee from DTH operator that it will work during monsoon.
Also, Tatasky is prone to frequently and silently remove good channels from their bouquet and advertise only channels they add!
