I have never seen any of DTH as good as Tata Sky, its popular because of its brand tag and brand equity. Tata sky is affordable and India's number one service provider. It comes with a great plan and consumer selected interest. It has a consumers loyalty and repeatability. Users has a proclamation or liberty to choose the channel he/she wants to watch and pay according to it, this liberty has boosted the consumers to shift from cable operator to DTH. But its competition has increased because of fiber, broadband and routers. It is hard to compete with newly advancing technology. If they have to retain its capital market the have to innovate regularly and go with the flow of generation. They should know and provide the need for generation.
I personally don't use tatasky because it shows error and if there's even a cloudy sky the signal disintegrates and channel cannot be watched. In the hills it happens regularly and it's too irritating. Basic downfall of DTH is this, broadband is giving tough competition to DTH as technology is now tilting towards broadband. Broadband and routers are convinient as it is cheaper and can be used in many measures like whole internet can be ran without obstruction. As this is the world of internet. Few years back the price of plan of DTH was ok but now because of introduction of router it's better to use router than DTH few years after I personally think that DTH will be replaced by wireless router or fibres in coming days.
Main disadvantages of DTH are their first installation and its maintenance. Usually installation charges are high and maintenance are high in ruler areas but router doesn't need any installation its handy and anyone can setup easily as installation is too easy or none. Nowadays tv comes with wireless features providing online internet facility so using router will be convinient.
