TCS is worst company to join ever for freshers. TCS gives position as Systems Engineer to employees who join as freshers but assigns different project that involves only clerical work and not the actual work of Systems Engineer. In general, you will get tag as Systems Engineer but your internal work is not of Systems Engineer. With 2+ or 4+ years of Systems Engineer experience, if you apply to other companies for Systems Engineer job, you will get rejections for sure and no calls from good companies because their job role will definitely not match with your experience even if you gain experience from India's top Service based company TCS.
The companies will reject you even if you have 2+ or 4+ years of experience in TCS as a Systems Engineer because TCS doesn't give opportunity to work on things that a Systems Engineer is required to do, instead TCS gives clerical work which involves updating data in application, resolving tickets for application, etc., TCS doesn't even give opportunity to work with Zendesk/Freshdesk software which are in demand now a days. Instead, it gives to work on ServiceNow for monitoring tickets which is older platform as compared to Zendesk/Freshdesk.
Below is the actual role of a Systems Engineer but TCS doesn't give below work to you as a Systems Engineer:
1.Manages and monitors all installed systems and infrastructure for the organization to be in line with company guidelines or SOP(standard operating procedure).
2.Defines customers’ needs and functionality in a service development cycle.
3.Assists in the coordination of various teams testing and evaluating for the development of design and its implementation of the best output.
4.Installs, configures, and tests operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
5.Ensures the highest level of systems and infrastructure availability.
6.Implements warranty and support activities.
7.Evaluates the existing systems and provides the technical direction to IT support staff.
8.Plans and implements system automation as required for better efficiency.
9.Oversees the development of customized software and hardware requirement.
10.Collaborates with other professionals to ensure high quality deliverables within organization guidelines, policies, and procedures.
11.Deals with work process, optimization methods, and risk management tools in the given projects for the successful accomplishments according to the requirements of the stakeholders.
Also, Systems Engineer role at TCS doesn't involve below duties:
1.Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UNIX-based systems.
2.Creating scripts(e.g. using Perl, Ruby, Python) and setting up software for automation.
3.Working with networking technologies(OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
4.Performance tuning, and system monitoring.
5.Working with MacOS, VMWare, PowerShell, complex Active Directory, Hybrid AD, or Azure AD.
By this you get to know that Systems Engineer tag is just for formality and it doesn't involve actual Systems Engineer work at TCS. So definitely, this will create problems when you are applying for other companies with experience as Systems Engineer and your application is sure to get rejected.
Also, TCS employees don't come to office on time. If the office starts at 12:00 pm, the managers and employees come to office 30 minutes late i.e., at 12:30 pm and no one is going to ask them why they are late. So this is undisciplined act. But in other companies if you come to office even 5 minutes late, you will get warning in some cases and in other cases you are fired on spot.
There is appraisal cycle at TCS but even if you perform well and get A, B or C and, your salary will remain constant and will not even increase by 5%. Also there is no any promotion. TCS only changes the position of employees like from System Administrator to Systems Engineer but actual clerical work remains same. TCS mentions that there is career growth for Systems Engineer job description but the actual fact is that there is no any career growth when you join as a Systems Engineer at TCS and this is a scam to trap employees to join TCS.
Also, there is lot of office politics and managers will give good rating to only those employees who do their personal work like completing their course, giving their test in iEvolve, etc., (I mean to say here that there is iEvolve learner which involves completing certain learning, so this work is given by managers to employees and employees should complete it on manager's behalf so that managers can enjoy their day). By this you can get to know how lazy the managers are here.
Above opinion is my personal opinion and it may differ from person to person. Some may believe it and some may go against it. But this is the real fact that I have experienced at TCS, so I am sharing it here.
