Tarkarli is my 7th or 8th beach holiday in Konkan and I can safely say that it is the best beach destination I have been to(barring Goa). The place is small, local people are really friendly, prices are reasonable, facilities are decent, and above all the water is the cleanest you will find in entire konkan shore. We left for our water activities on 8 am the next day by using a hired boat. The boat covers Devbag sangam, Tsunami islamd, Dolphin point and Nivti rock.
Route:
We drove from Pune to Tarkarli to celebrate the new year in a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, and we found the perfect place for it. It takes about 8-9 hours from Pune to reach Tarkarli. Road is mostly good, barring a couple of patches. It goes something like this: Pune->Swargate->Katraj Ghat->NH4 Bangalore highway towards Satara-> NH4 towards Kolhapur -> Gaganbawda-> Karul Ghat Section->Kankavli -> Kasal -> Malvan-> Tarkarli.
Once malvan is reached there is a Y junction, take the one that goes inside malvan town. Cross the bus stand and take a left turn towards Tarkarli. You will keep finding boards for various resorts in tarkarli, most prominent one being of MTDC resort at tarkarli. It is about 6 km from the malvan town. The roads are extremely narrow and there are hotels and homestays on both side of the road so be careful while driving through this patch.
Total time required for us was about~9 hours, 4 hours till kolhapur and remaining towards tarkarli, but for experienced drivers it will take max 4 hours, as we were halting every now and then for tea and loo breaks. Total Distance from Pune to Tarkarli is about 400 km, 240 km from pune to kolhapur and 160 km from Kolhapur to tarkarli.
