Tanishq... All that glitters is not Gold!. Review on Tanishq, Mumbai

Tanishq?. All that glitters ?. Is the Conman?s teeth ! Tanishq ?. The ads conjured up visions of glittering jewels, honest dealings and claimed that all others were frauds. I had been brought up to believe that the written word is gospel and believed all the claims... sucker that I am. Shopping for a chain for the better half I landed up at the Tanishq Showroom at Rajkot and dazzled by the glitter and pressured by the sales girls splurged my hard earned money on a chain. The better half was thrilled and I was pleased and basked in the glow ?. :( Alas the day of reckoning came just a few months later (3 months in fact). The chain broke. By now I was transferred to Vadodara. Full of belief in promises made and armed with the bill and guarantee card I landed up at the Tanishq showroom. The smiles slipped when I explained my problem, they were so sorry but the fine print said repairs could be done but it would take time, have to check with Rajkot and head office etc. But why did it break, we had many other chains which have lasted for years, off course they were not bought from Tanishq! No answer just superior smiles. It would be better if I would just pay a little bit extra and take a new chain, and yes they would get the mangalsutra fixed to the new chain in just fifteen minutes tomorrow. The workman was not available today. Why don?t I purchase the chain today and come back tomorrow and get the mangalsutra fixed. Ok said me the eternal fool. Paid the bill and landed up the next day. Ah yes the senior person was now available, the man who knows everything. He looked at the chain, he looked at the mangalsutra and then he looked at me a nasty gleam in his eye. Sorry this is a south Indian mangalsutra, we don?t have the needed expertise and machinery here to fix this. In case I wanted it fixed I would have to leave it with him for some time. How much time I queried, all I got was a shrug of the shoulders. I said it is unfair you did not tell me this yesterday before purchase. Mistake on the staffs side maybe but why did you accept what they said, you made the bigger mistake quoth he. Hey I trusted the Tanishq brand and this is unfair tell me how fast can I get the job done. All I got was shouts, and rudeness and bellows. Repeated requests did not abate the abuse and I got no response to my queries for the name and designation of the guy. The subordinate staff whispered its Harishbahi and got shouted at along with me. I asked for a refund of my money as the chain without a mangalsutra was of no use. Not in our policy said the guy. Give me you complaint book, don?t have one he drawled. A suggestion book ? Ok if you want to but it will not be of any use. I looked at the book filled with saccharine comments, and wrote my complaint suggestion. (The guy was right there has been no comeback from Tanishq yet.) I walked out thinking ahh another lesson learnt , and yes the TATA brand is just another brand which you cannot trust blindly.
