Spoofs have been a normal happening in Hollywood from the days of 'Airplane', 'Hot shots' and some of Mel Brook's movies..and here too many people have tried in Bollywood. I.S.Johar made plenty of films making fun of Hindi films. I think even 'Sholay' was not spared, and 'Aag' was not defenitely a spoof (lol). In regional languages it has been tried in 'Aahaa, enna poruththam' in Thamizh, already.

But the recent 'Thamizh Padam' is a parody on every aspect of Thamizh films' features and cliches. As it was produced by our CMs grandson nobody raised their hand, otherwise the directors and other activists of the field would have gunned it down. The fun begins with the first frame itself. The titles run with garish psychedelic background typical of yesteryears movies...then it rolls and rolls without giving a chance to the viewer to yawn or chat with the neighbour...The guessing game will be really lost! Every hit film, every important actor, director is not spared in this fun. There is no defenite plot too...just the script runs after the hero, his love, villain etc. which are typical for an Indian film.

The just born child talks , when he becomes a boy he just jumps on a bicycle and pedals and just like that becomes a youth..

He has typical introducing song, in which he dances with groupies, spits philosophies and dances like every young star of thamizh filmdom. Gangsters fight with him and fly like rockets. His dear friends are old boyz, with their names too similar with actors of 'Boyz', who study in colleges and sit on walls and street corners, spending the time idly and commenting on the passing girls. We very well know this happens in every other film in which 40+ actors study either in school or colleges. The hero is a multiple personality too..he just goes and kills others, mostly typical villains with typical screen names like Sornakka. The rowdies kidnap a teenage youngster, and it is then revealed he is taken as a gift for Sornakka's birthday. The bash is celebrated with a kuthu dance, and as is the present style of Thamizh movies, a retired actress Kasthuri gives a sizzling dance without any close ups..and when some mid shots are shown a subtitle appears over the cleavage, with a 'Censored' sign!! And before Sornakka attempts to rape the young boy our hero enters , and she is killed after slipping on a banana skin.

The hero meets the heroine..as usual she fights on the road for justice and instant love clicks in him. As usual she is the daughter of the rich evil guy, and she wouldn't marry anyone who know nothing in dancing, especially Bharathanatyam. After trying to copy Backiaraj's dancing 'steps', overnight our hero reads a book ' How to learn Bharathanatyam' in a single Day', and the next day he gives a 'great' performance before her. He also paints a rangoli with his feet during the act. She is thrilled at his dance and the rangoli, which actually is an apes' face! A dream song immediately sprouts with a mixture of all nonsense words used till today in Tamizh film songs! When he asks for her hand with her dad, he is insulted for his poverty. The dad orders for a coffee, and within the time the coffee reaches him, our hero grows from rags to riches and becomes a millionaire, with electricity boards, Central Prisons, Railway Stations and even a mortuary bearing his name, with a theme song. The dad okays the marriage and in typical filmi style somebody raises the identity of his parents, whom he is missing.

Seeing their photos from his own chain pendant, our hero starts to Cinemapatti, his homevillage and a hilarious journey begins. All kinds of characters from Tamil Cinema cross his way, even a special effects Goddess statue from a Ramanarayanan film enquires him. And all through the film a Villain orders others without facing the camera from a crazy lit room! The family song from a Disc unites him with his parents..and the song is in reality an English pop!

The climax 'reveals' the hero as an IPS officer!!! Sometimes suspended and sometimes back to work...!

And everything ends well with a joke even in the ending title.

The film is a real laugh riot and is a hit now with the audience, who on the other side enjoy all the craps identified in this movie, and that is the irony of this film. The director Amuthan has done a great job, as it is difficult to hold the attention of the audience in a movie without a plot, and in the second half he could have avoided the sag. The hero Siva is the real asset of the movie. His comedy flair has been well known from his debut 'Chennai 28', and real guts is needed to perform such a role. the fresh music director Kannan too has given great songs, and the supposed to be comedy song 'Oh Magaseeya' has turned into a beautiful melody and a hit too. The only famous name of the crew is Nirav Shah, the cinematographer who has done a good job!!

And it was after a long time I spent every minute laughing throughout an entire movie, thanks to the creators of this beautiful comedy!!
