I visited taj mahal 2 years ago while visiting the historical city of agra. I was expecting a very beautiful, royal, marvellous piece of architecture but my expectations were too small and I was awestruck by this extravagant, heavenly and larger than life structure. Its considered as a symbol of love as it was built by the great shahjahan for his beloved wife mumtaz.
Architecturally, if you see it has a perfectly symmetrical mughal garden with shimmering water fountains and beautiful stonework done.
It has 4 minarets at the four corners and the structure with the minarets is raised off the ground. The four minarets are designed in a way that in case of earthquakes or natural calamity the four pillars will collapse outwards and not on the main taj structure as they are bulding outwards.
The taj is made in pure white marble and has carving of a golden paint which dazzles and looks beautiful when sun rays fall on it.
The whole mahal dazzles during the sunset and sunrise.
It has the tomb of the queen and it is believed that the openings marked on the taj are such that when it is full moon, the light penetrates through the openings and focuses the tomb of the queen.
The taj mahal has an entrance made of red sandstone, which acts as a perfect frame for the taj.
Level differences created between the taj and the main entrance by the garden is perfectly planned so that as you entrance the gate made out of red sandstone you see the marvellous taj in one frame.
I can simply define taj in words like this, but its true experience is when you go there. Please do visit taj once in your life.
