This is Ashik, after very very very long time, coming up with a review for a story book Sornaregai.
Its a tamil novel, so please forgive me friends those who don't read tamil.
It was before 7 or 8 years when I used to pay regular visit to the library nearby my house. In one day I got this book Sornaregai written by Indira Soundarajan, when searching the dusty racks without any idea of what to take. As the name sounded different and vaguely familiar, I took the book home. I read it completely within another hour, and I was amazed by the way the story proceeds, to an extent that I didn’t want to return it. I read the preface, and to my surprise the author was the one who penned the novel Vittu vidu karuppa, on which the famous thriller serial Marma Desam - Vidathu Karuppu was based. More surprisingly this one was also made in to serial, as Marma Desam Part 3. The author is famous for his own way of writing style, making the plot mixed with supernatural elements. And here it is about palmistry and its impact on the characters.
Now as I have a new interest on blogging, and absolutely have no idea of what to write and where to begin with, I happened to see the book, when I was looking some other book in my shelf. What matters in reading it one more time?!!! I did it, and after passing half, I get this idea of reviewing it. Here it is below. (I am not a professional writer. Please pardon if you find it boring or with many flaws)
Plot
The plot is very simple. A death sentence prisoner Muniappan escapes from prison and takes shelter in the house of a poor couple Murugan and Thangam. Baskar, a palmist who also happens to be the brother of Thangam, pays his casual visit to his sister the next day and caught unwittingly in the midst of Muni’s game. Muni forces Baskar to help him escape from the police in pursuit, and to reach the place where he has hidden gold bars which he stole years before. But things don’t go as planned and takes serious and unexpected turns and twists, which everyone meets their deserved fate.
I like to write more about the plot. But it ultimately will spoil if someone reads the book in future after reading this synopsis. The clever aspect of the novel is that, the characters’ lives and fates are beautifully weaved to palmistry. As in most of his novels, the author makes a short prologue in each chapter about different aspects of palmistry and relates it very well with the main characters. This makes the story more interesting as pages are turned. The characters are such that, either their presence is very short or elaborate, it is important to some extent. Only who come till the end of the story are Baskar and Muni.
For those who are read novels, and likes stories with thriller elements, I suggest this as a must read. I hope there won’t be any disappointment. I think it is better to wind up here. Have a nice reading..!!!
