My father came to this hospital(SUM Hospital) having a mild temperature. Immediately the doctor advised him to admit in Medicine ICU. Even though he was able to speak, walk comfortably, and moreover, he was not feeling that much seek to visit into ICU, he was there for 2 days. During each time visit in ICU, we had noticed he was Okay and we were all are not sure for what all he kept over there. After our repeated queries to the ICU in-charge doctor, every time they said he is fine and will shift to the cabin soon. Finally, after two days they shifted him to the cabin for further treatment. Doctor suspect of Kidney infection and advised to have treatment in the cabin. The next week only two times the doctor visited him as the assigned doctor was on leave.
Every time we had to follow up about his progress and doctor visit. Few times even we came to know since he was patient of Dr. X and he is on leave and other doctors are also busy so they are unable to come to visit. It was a very pathetic situation over there when doctors are not available to consult your father and his condition was in the same state for a week. Finally, after one week Dr. Tapas Behera came and advised me to have dialysis and we also have gone with him. In this process, another one more week also over(16 Days) and by that time my father had 3 times dialysis.
One night during our stay in Cabin, suddenly my father felt difficult to breathe and that time no doctors were available. With the help of on-duty nurses somehow we managed the entire night by providing oxygen and nebulization. Very next morning doctor came and said he is in the critical case and not sure what is the issue. They are just advised to take to AIIMS. But after discussing with them finally they advised to put him into ICU again immediately as he developed lung infection by that time and as per the Doctor, 70% of lungs were damaged. We admitted him again in the medical ICU. Very soon he was put into the ventilator. This issue happened because of a longer stay at hospital premises as per the ICU doctor. After 4 days I could see he lost all his senses and he was into a coma.
Each day his condition was going deteriorated and after 7 days he passed away. On the last day, I saw the creatine value was near 3(not bad) but still the Doctor was going for Dialysis and during that process, he got heart chock and drops of blood were around the bed and he died. During the last 7 days, my experience was not at all good in the medical ICU. There are many factors I found during my stay over 25 days over there but few of them I just want to highlights like
1) the on-duty doctors have not proper information and sincere about the patient
2) During counseling, Dr. Arun was chewing Gutka and in ICU too
3) Few of the phrenologist doctors(Dr. Txxxs Bxxxxa, Dr. Dxxa) are having attitude problem. My request for them to be polite with all
4) Keeping the patient in the ward or cabin for long days which exposes to risk as my father suffered
5) Medicine ICU is not hygienic as few times I noticed mosquitoes were flying and sitting on top of the patient.
I found my father died because of hospital negligence. If my father would have diagnosed properly in the first week and Doctor would have come to the exact reason then probably he could have come out early. Anyway, I lost him but my request to all before going there please think over twice and take a judicious decision. These are all my personal experience and thought.
