Plot

The year is 2233. The spaceship USS Kelvin is headed by Richard Robau(Faran Tahir). His spaceship is attacked by another spaceship Narda which is headed by Captain Nero(Eric Bana). Nero demands Richard to come aboard his spaceship and asks him about a certain Spock and a different spaceship which Richard fails to recognise. Richard is killed by Nero and USS Kelvin is now headed by Dynamic Captain George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth).

Realising that he has no chance to save the ship, he manages to evacuate nearly 800 of its crew, which also includes his much pregnant wife, Winona. Winona manages to give birth to a boy who is named James and as soon as he is born, George manages one final attack on Narda and his ship is destroyed. Years later in Planet Earth, James Kirk (Chris Pine) has grown in to a rebelious young man who lives life on the edge like his father. He gets recruited in the Starfleet and makes friends with Multi-lingual translator Uhura (Zoe Saldana), a nervous Dr Leonard "Bones" McCoy(Karl Urban) and also meets a rival in Spock(zachary Quinto). He fails the Kobayashi Maru test so he cant go aboard the Spaceship, USS Enterprise but is sneaked in at the last moment by Bones using a looph0le in the system. The federation gets a distress signal from Spock's home planet, Vulcan, that it is going to be destroyed by a black h0le created by Narda. The ship doesnt manage to save Vulcan and now tries its level best to see that it does not destroy the planet earth. In this conquest, James must find ways to destory Narda and also come to level with Spock.

Critic’s Comments

For all fans of the Franchisee, Star Trek is a must watch. The original TV series was aired in 1966 and then had several reruns and was aired for the first time in India on the National Network DD way back in 1984. Many of us who have grown up in the 80's have been fans of the Serial. The movie is more to do with the Visuals and a little bit of philosophy trown here and there. After MASH, Start Trek is the only tv series which had a huge fan following world wide. The Simpsons and Friends fan following is nothing compared to Star Trek. So in whole. this is a much awaited and worth watching movie. The movie generates a lot of interest because everyone wanted to know, how did everything began on Star Trek. What was everyone's past, how did James Kirk became the captain of the ship and many unanswered questions are answered here. Although quite cliched in parts, this one is a must watch movie and only on the big screen.

1) Although The filming began in November 2007 and ended in March 2009, post production delay led to film being released in May 2009. Originally film was slated to be released in December 2008,

2) The working Title of the film were Star Trek - Zero and Star Trek - XI.

3) Russel crowe was considered for the Role of Nero and Adrien Brody, for the role of Spock.

4) Matt Damon expressed the desire for the role of Captain James Kirk but Director J J Abrams politely declined as he felt Damon was too old for the role.

5) There has been a so called "Odd Number Curse" on the Films of Star Trek where the odd number films have flopped and the even numbers have been hits. The "Curse" was broken when Star Trek - Nemesis (The 10th part) bombed and the current Star Trek (2009) became a huge hit, grossing almost $314 million dollars worldwide(More than 2 times its original budget of $150 million). Star Trek - 1 to 10 have got a combined gross of amost $1.05 billion. The current one is almost 1/3 of the total gross ever making it the biggest blockbuster of 2009 and the biggest Star Trek hit in the series.

6) This is Leonard Nimoy's first film in nearly 10 years and his first non - animated film in 18 years. His last film in which he appeared as a person was Star Trek - VI - The undiscovered Country.

7) Steven Spielberg had convinced JJ Abarams to direct the film and was one of the advisors of action scenes of the movie.
