Star Health and Allied Insurance Co Ltd is working closely with MouthShut.com to enhance customer satisfaction.

1.I had ported the health insurance of my parents last year from Cigna TTK to star health due to less premium and lucrative promises it told me to fulfill. I never had to use the health insurance for 3 yrs as my parents are fit and fine.


2.This year last month that is on Feb 2021 my sister told me my mother needs to get her eye operated on for Right eye pterygium. So we searched a cashless hospital near our district in Himachal Pradesh.


3.I called up the customer care in advance and informed her about the Hospital name -SM eye hospital Kangra (eye care center) and appointment date on 18 March 2021. They replied with Dear Customer, Your claim has been registered successfully, Intimation no: CLI/2021/161111/2329019 - Star Health Insurance and asked me to reach the hospital with my mother's ID proof and cashless treatment will be done.


4.I assured the same to my sister who had to take her to hospital and get her treated.


5.On the day of operation my family reached the hospital well in time and through the insurance dept gave the required details as told to them by me.


6.Insurance dept tried communicating to the star health through mails, sent the documents but failed to get any approval in time.


7.I too came to know that the star health insurance department is not replying to the hospital resulting in a delay in the operation.


8.One customer care executive who had got my insurance done tried helping but resulted in fruitless efforts.


9.The problem which I found out was the star health insurance dept has poor communication standards with even the cashless registered hospitals with them.


10.All of this resulted in complete wastage of my family's time at the hospital, none of the customer care executives called up the hospital and tried speaking to the hospital department nor replied to the mails in time. Also, there is an internal problem with the company where they are confused about using a portal or email to receive documents from the hospital.


11.At last when they received the documents with so much struggle they took 2 hrs to confirm the approval.


12.The result was claimed got rejected and the reason was in the document probably my mother mentioned that she has this problem for last one year which she was feeling but never bothered to get treated. This thing got the claim rejected as I had mentioned her fit when I took the policy.


13.The amount was about 10000/- not much which we paid in cash but it taught us important lessons about the policy decisions to take in future.


14.I still need to figure out which policy to go for next year but definitely, it does not star health.


15.I cannot trust them because had it been an emergency where I need quick communication and quick release of claim I can't trust star health insurance in that.


16.A good policy is the one that helps you in your most difficult time like in an emergency case or huge monetary needs. It is not always about having the best plan and benefits but the execution of it that matters. Star health insurance failed in that. At least customer care should speak to the hospital dept and even go the extra mile to settle the claim.


17.Alas! Health insurance is a must in our country and we need a sound insurance policy when it's about our loved ones.
