If you care for your child's psychological health and future, avoid this school at any cost. I joined this school in 2nd standard when Rama Swaminathan ma'am was principal. She was a highly respectable and good woman who ran this place in her own image.
Then came Subala Ananthanarayanan under whom, this institution went to the pigs. The senior school teachers here began a culture of comparing students with toppers and IITians and publicly ridiculing them for scoring three marks lower than their topper friends. As my brother was an IITian, I would get constantly jeered by the following teachers -
Shobha(physics teacher of the senior school)
Rajalakshmi(chemistry teacher of the senior school)
Gomathi(math teacher of senior school)
Meetha(current principal)
Chithra Ramesh(science teacher middle school). This woman used to ridicule me as my friend was a class topper and eventually made it to an IIT. As I did not, she and the entire science dept used to collectively talk filth to my face.
Mrs. Subala proved herself to be the worst possible thing that could have happened to an otherwise fine institution. The teachers were elevated based on her favoritism. The students who used to be given opportunities to represent the school in big-city level and national level events used to be those students who used to be shown favoritism by these worthless teachers. Mrs. Rajalakshmi was particularly incompetent - as a chemistry teacher and as a human being in general. She used to go and talk nonsense about students to other students. Mrs. Shobha was decent as a physics teacher but a moral failure and the most decrepit human being in the Adyar-Besant Nagar area. She used to verbally abuse and ridicule students even for the most valid doubts they used to ask her in her classes. She almost drove some students to suicide by her foul mouth.
Today, Meetha Venkatesh has proven to be an even worse version of Subala as she has made the place into a corporate dungeon where Rama Swaminathan ma'am's policy of giving free education to poor students in the area has been totally scrapped. Parents' income levels are the criteria for admissions. Parents and even alumni are not allowed into the school premises and the principal who used to be formerly available to all people to meet is barricaded shut in her room like some mafia gangsters leading a cartel. Meetha's clique of teachers are worse than Subala's and if you even set foot in the premises of the school, even if you are an alumnus, the watchmen here(who are thugs) will speak foully to you and threaten you with physical violence if you try going past the second iron gate without an express written permission from the principal herself.
The only thing that I remember fondly about this place(academics wise) was the Sanskrit dept and in particular - Shri N. Panchapakesa Bhagavathar - the Sanskrit teacher who was a stern yet a kind man whose skill and talent in the scriptures and Sanskrit was unparalleled. He was one of the last men who truly merited the title of 'teacher' as he had earned it. Now that he and his entire clique of the Sanskrit dept have exited the scene, even the one decent and civilized thing about this place is gone. This place is quite literally the graveyard of education today. Your child would be better off as an uneducated yet good-natured kind-hearted peasant herding cattle rather than to spend even a minute within the walls of this asylum.
