Good news for all the veggies out there. Finally, there is something to look forward to. SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai is a theme based restaurant, the theme being Molecular Gastronomy. This place serves Indian food with a twist in it. The everyday recipes and the street food are presented in a completely different ‘Master Chef Style’ making it look all the more attractive. Dishes arrive in test tubes, syringes, beaker, bowls with hollow space that hold nitrogen and several other unusual vessels.
SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Location is right opposite the Palladium shopping mall, near to Quattro. Don’t go by its entrance which is very tiny as the sprawling space inside makes India cooler. After hearing a lot about how the food is served in an unfamiliar manner, an impromptu plan was made to visit Spiceklub.
SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai too much of time we were kept waiting: Disappointed with the waiting time, which was pretty much, we finally got in after approximately 45-50minutes. A menu card was in our hand as soon as we settled at our table.
SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Pav Bhaji Fondue:We ought to Pav Bhaji everywhere. So we started with Pav Bhaji fondue. The presentation has no competition, while the taste did not match our expectation. It was creamy with a lot of unnecessary butter on it.
SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Then we ordered 2 paneer starters which were decorated with coriander and spices making it look beautiful and delicious. The size of the paneer was decent and enough to suffice a group of 5. However, the most talked item ‘Pani-Puri’ is purely a gimmick. Only because the ‘pani’ and ‘chutney’ is served differently, it costs something around Rs.300. However, one plate will be enough for a family of four.
SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Mocktails will lit up your life:You have a wide range of mocktails to choose from. Being a kiwi fan, I got a ‘Punch on the Pier’ for myself. It was a refreshing fruit cooler with chopped kiwi and a few more fruits with it.
SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Desserts The desserts here are to die for. We were already full after trying all the above-mentioned dishes but were recommended to go for desserts, so we first opted for Bubbling Kulfi. Must say, it was the best I had tried till date. Served in an open-mouth jar, this dry kulfi is presented along with rabdi, blueberry sauce, chocolate, and caramel sauce as toppings. It tasted so yummy that even the thought is mouth-watering. Though our stomach was screaming to burst, we could not resist ourselves from ordering another dessert called ‘Foaming Soap’. This was suggested to us by the attendant. Shaped like a Pears soap, this Ganache sponge cake is served with rasmalai foam on a soap dish making it taste extremely scrumptious. The whole idea behind it is extremely innovative.
SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Recommendation: I will just give you a gist of my review on this extraordinary place.
1) SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Food here!:
Taste: Very average. Certainly does not justify the rates that come along.
SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Presentation: 11/10: No doubt about it. Lovely and attractive giving our Indian food a unique twist.
2) SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Ambiance:
Nothing extraordinary to talk about. The décor is simple.
3) SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Service:
Not impressive. Takes an average of 20 minutes/dish. But there’s a standee on every table that apologizes for slow service. A sweet attempt to cover their fault but you know its so difficult to wait for food and hence, nothing can compensate for the same.
4) SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Cost for two Cost for 2 Cost for 2 would be anywhere between 1500-2500. Yes, it's pricey.
5) SpiceKlub - Lower Parel - Mumbai Reservation:
I would suggest please book a table well before time rather than waiting there for hours in a long unending queue. Even on a weekday we were shocked to find out that there’s 45 minutes waiting.
My end point is that it is not worth the hype but ya if you are a Mumbaikar, this place is a must visit. I am sure nothing like this has ever come up before, at least in Mumbai.
