It never happened that I plan a travel to a distant place and consider an air travel. Since was very very used to train travels and the destinations that we use to travel are well connected by trains then by air.
Now this travelling habbit has its roots in the summer vacations that we use to have when I was in school. Loads of holidays and nothing to worry about. But now the tables have changed. Now I WORK and have little time for vacations or so called holidays. Thus looking at the time available at hand and timings, we booked our first air ticket. It was from Pune to Delhi Spicejet FL-208 (Not very much sure of the flight number, but its and afternoon flight to Delhi nonstop in 2 hours!)
Booking: Booking an airline ticket is just a breeze these days. There are so many of portals available. I checked the suitable flight timings on Yatra.com and booked the ticket directly from Spice jet portal Yatra or any other portal charges somewhere around Rs.150 for using the portal. So it is advisable to chek the directly from the airlines for the actual fare. Again, I don’t trust these portals if there are any cancellations. Have read enough stuff on MS too as regards no refund/ delay in refunding. It’s the good to keep it to the airlines website for your business.
SJ allows its passengers to choose its seats on board but charge Rs.50 for the seat allocation. Somehow this feature though has some cost involved has its own benefits too. Since we can arrange/choose the seats say window or an aisle seat as per our requirements. Again you can book a meal Veg/Non Veg on board while booking itself. Even the menu in short was available on the site. The charge for a Veg meal was around Rs.100. Once you are done with your booking and payment is done, you get your confirmation number with all the necessary details. So far so good.
Check-in: Check in at any airport is somewhat tedious. It took us around 10 minutes to get our luggage on the running mills and a boarding passes were issued. The lady at the desk had her typical professional smile and we all reciprocated. I felt that the people at SJ were adequately helpful to unload the bags from the trolley. I also observed that they were helping some senior citizen for the check in. SJ scores well in this regards.
Flight and aircraft: The aircraft was very clean. (Since it was my first flight experience, I have nothing as a measure to compare it, so spare me if I am saying that it was clean ...lol) Well I mean to say that it was better than the 2AC of the Indian railways. The flight was on time and the fact that I have come across that most of SJ flights are on time. So this punctuality really counts. The attendants had their professional smile on their faces and they were greeting the passengers. It was fun actually since nor the attendants were keen to greet and neither were we interested to reply back LOL. May be my review is inclined towards my first flight experience rather than on SJ but will try to keep some utility for the readers too.
Food/Snacks: Since we had already paid for the veg meal, we were served with some really good BIG sandwich +one juice + one sweet (it was like a cake) must say it was really good/tasty and hygienic too.It was adequate from keeping us from starving and not that heavy to keep our belly to bloat while flying. After having our snacks we were served tea/coffee. The attendants were very professional and courteous too. Since the food was on sale too, some nearby people asked us if it was enough to buy it and we just nodded.
In flight entertainment: Since this is a low cost carrier, it had a very few options for entertainment. There were few magazines available to read and except that nothing extraordinary though. And in a flight of just two hours nothing more of an entertainment as such is required. I was only busy taking snaps from the window (I think it is not allowed though) SJ may look into it to provide some more than just magazines but really not a very big thought.
Check out: The flight arrived in exactly two hours at the Delhi airport. But the plane kept running on the side ways to arrive at the appropriate terminal. It glided for almost 15 minutes to come to a complete halt. From there SJ bus took us to the terminal to get our luggage. Here in this bus the seats provided are too less and they get occupied very soon. My father is a senior citizen and I requested a co passenger to make him sit. SJ should actually look into it so that there are some more seats available for Senior citizens. It’s not a big distance to travel in those buses but it takes a minimum of 10 minutes, so some provision might help. Check out at the terminal was good again. All our bags arrived in 15-20 minutes and way we flew
