BACKGROUND. I purchased a SONY in the mid-90s.
WHERE
Singapore, "Made in Japan", paid a premium for this option, planned the purchase well
COLOR
Silver
TECHNOLOGY
Advanced for the 90s, all options from a high-end system at that time
SOUND OPTIONS
Sound seperation high, minimal noise with Sorround Sound; of course. Remeber this was nearly 15 years ago and sounds excellent, even as you are reading this. Power Output is 1200W PMPO but the quality is higher from a frequency/sound spectrum perspective. There is distinct difference when compared to Binatone, BPL-Sanyo, Philips large systems that were then made in India; whatever was available to Indian consumers, in the mid-90s.
WHY
-Wanted a complete music system with enjoyable sound output for all kinds of music - across the sound spectrum that humans can listen
-Market had lower PMPO options from SONY at that time, no sorround sound from SONY in India.
IMPRESSIONS
Any high-end or high quality system in India in the mid-90s was an imported one. Hence this sytem blew everyone away with all sound, settings, speaker options etc. Neighbors, friends, relatives came to see this! The configuration and programmability is fantastic. Has future conenctivity options such as Digital MP3. Recall, the Indian audio market had only CDs then.
CONFIGURATION
Got this connected to reflect sorround system across 2 bedrooms and enjoyed the musical effects!
VERDICT
Definitely no BOSE system, but close to JVC quality. I would prefer JVC, but from experience can understand SONY is quite adequate for Indian consumers, unless you have 2 lakh rupees for an ONKYO, piece-meal JVC or BOSE/other!
FEEDBACK
You tell me of the newer systems from SONY in India...Currently am planning to buy used JVC or BOSE.
MORE INFORMATION
Please read "The making of SONY" by its Japanese founder, Akio Morito-San. It reveals his personal and SONY's commitments to quality. He died a few years ago. See pictures :-)
