Nature is God’s greatest gift to mankind. Earth, Sky, Mountains, Waterfalls, Rain, Sun, Moon are all the elements of nature, which enriches life. A poet is happiest when he has to write a song about nature. There are many famous songs about nature from Hindi movies. Here’s a selection of some of my favourite songs about nature.
I was inspired to write this review by Tannadi (@astrofreak1234). It was a very interesting topic to write a review. So here’s my song selection, arranged in chronological order:
a) Thandi Hawa Khali Ghata Aa Hi Gayi Jhoom Ke
Pyar Liye Dole Haseen Nache Jiya Ghoom Ke
Picturised on the ethereal beauty Madhubala, this song is from the movie Mr. & Mrs. 55. Picturised by the legendary Guru Dutt, this song has the heroine prancing around enjoying the cool weather of autumn and waiting for love. Geeta Dutt has sung this song with aplomb, music is by the inimitable O P Nayyar and the song written by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

Aise Hi Jag Mein Aati Hain Subahein Aisi Hi Shaam Dhale

e) Haree haree vasundharaa pe neelaa neelaa ye gagan
Ke jis pe baadalon kee paalakee udaa rahaa pawan
Dishaayen dekho rangabharee, chamak rahee umang bharee
Ye kis ne phool phool pe kiyaa singaar hai
Ye kaun chitrakaar hai, Ye kaun chitrakaar
Greenery, distant hills, blossoming flowers signify the beauty of nature. This creates such a pretty picture before our eyes. But who is the painter (Yeh kaun chitrakar hain) who has created this wonderful picture? That’s the question asked in this beautiful song from Boond Jo Ban Gaye Moti (1967). This melodious song is a result of a combination of little known artistes – lyricist Bharat Vyas and composer Satish Bhatia. But the singer is the legendary Mukesh who fills the song with emotion. The song is picturised on Jitendra, who as a school teacher wonders about the mysteries of nature before children in sylvan settings.
The following lines from the song are a wonderful salute to the great creator who sketched the beauty of nature for humanity:
Galiche ye gulaab ke, bagiche ye bahaar ke
Ye kis kawee kee kalpanaa kaa chamatkaar hai
Ye kaun chitrakaar hai

f) Chanda Hai Tu Mera Suraj Hain Tu
O Meri Ankhon Ka Taara Hai Tu
Nature is most beautiful, but for a mother her child is most beautiful. For a mother, her child is the sun, moon and star around which her life revolves. This beautiful emotion is well-expressed in this Lata Mangeshkar song from the movie Aradhana (1969). Picturised on Sharmila Tagore, music is by S D Burman and the lyricist is Anand Bakshi.

i) Lagi Aaj Sawan Ki Phir Wo Jhadi Hain
Wahi Aag Seene Mein Phir Jal Padi Hain
............
Kuchh aise hi din the wo jab ham mile the
Chaman mein nahin phool dil mein khile the
Wahin to hai mausam magar rut nahin wo
Mere saath barsaat bhi ro padi hai
Rain is associated wth the celebration of love. But this song is about unrequited love. From the movie Chandni (1989), this melodious song is in Suresh Wadkar’s silky voice, lyrics by Anand Bakshi and music by Yash Chopra’s favourite Shiv-Hari.
