The trouble with our Hindi movies is that we know the hero and the heroine are going to get together in the end. Other than this predictability, the movie is filled with some nice twists and turns and I’ll applaud the director for creating very predictable, stereotyped scenes with unpredictable outcome.

The story is very very simple. One guy, loves one girl, family wants him to see and marry another girl, he sees girl, likes her doesn’t want to marry her, they become friends. Later they also fall in love and the complications start. That said, I’d like to emphasize the beauty with which director Imtiaz Ali has portrayed the story on the canvas. Scenes from Goa are really good, no, not just good, they are breathtaking.

Most of the lyrics are not really songs as much as they are dialogs set to music. I didn’t like them. But the last two songs – “Na sahi” and the Punjabi one “yara rub rus jaane de”, they are great. Especially “Na sahi”, I am really fond of the thought it conveys – even if love doesn’t work, life goes on. Something like “Mujh ko kehne do ki main aaj bhi jee sakta hoon, Ishq naakaam sahi, zindagi naakaam nahin.” I think there are 4 parts to a song – Music, Lyric, Voice and Sentiment. This one is great on all counts. Music in the movie is quite different than normal trends and quite refreshing.

Dialog. I think it’s really hard to write good dialog for a comedy movie. Socha na tha has very appropriate and funny dialog. When humour comes from normal everyday words and situations, it’s feels very good.

Aayesha Takia is unfortunate that this movie did not release as her first movie as it was planned. She looks so great in it – cute, loveable, the girl next door. Her voice is so sexy, I never knew! She has very well.

Abhay Deol is Dharmendra’s son and I strongly detest these starsons who get an advantage by birth. But even I have to admit the boy has played the part of a mischievous, lovable brat perfectly.

Light movie, no gore or fighting, romantic, funny and entertaining all the time. Very few emotional scenes and they are good.

Music, dialog, acting, story, overall effect. What all is there in a movie? And I’ve told you about all of them. Go see it.

I was sorry to see very little crowd in the movie. People are stupid to waste money on crap like Bewafaa and Karam and not go see a totally entertaining movie like “Socha na tha”. All because of the hype those movies get.

Overall rating:

Music : 8.5/10

Songs: 7/10

Dialog: 9.8/10

Story: 6/10

Overall: 8/10
