Ok, 1st things 1st. This is a Shankar's Film, Starring Rajinikanth, Music by A.R.Rahman.
This is Shankar's film after his Hit film
'Anniyan'. That is the only Shankar film that he has moved out of
A.R.Rahman's studio to Harris Jeyaraj's studio to get his musical needs
[Anniyan].
This film/project, brings Shankar & A.R.Rahman
back in action, and I must say, they have certainly pull out an
excellent show. Lets look at the songs that A.R.Rahman's has curn out
for Shankar after their break for almost 3 years.
Balleilaka - *S.P.Bala, Rehana, Benny [ 3.5 / 5 ]
with "Suriyano ? Chandhirano ? Yar Ivano... Sathene Solle " - this bit
is simply sweet & sounds very new. As everyone would be surprised,
normally an Intro for Rajini song would have some instrumental playing
in loud volume to give the impression of his powerful appearance, but
here A.R.Rahman has opted for Female singers to give that feel. Its
good, but pretty plain.I think he should have included some powerful
instruments along too. WOW, what an energy by Veteran Singer, SPB. The
pace in his voice, its just amazing! This song is memorable for only 2
factors = SPB & Lyrics. Music wise its very normal and average.
Vaaji Vaaji - *Hariharan, Madhushree [ 5 / 5]
-
What an introduction portion for this song. GRAND at its best. And
AMAZING chant of " Mmmm... Mmmm.. Mmmm... Mmmm... Aambal Aambal " It
just gives u the goosebumps when u watch it on BIG SCREEN.The Dance,
the Music, the Costume, the Camera, W O W ! One can only wonder how can
anyone compose a song like this. Im not praising this song too much,
its just that the feel it gives is simply out of the world. The
interludes, were just amazing. Very rich in chants & grand music.
The rendition by Hariharan, is just very energetic.Loved how he goes
" Poovambaaaaal.... Aambal Aambal " and the part " Hey Hey Hey ...
Oooo....". What about Madhushree?? One of her best Tamil diction song. She sounds
very sweet here. Her rendition needs an applause, esp her Entry into
the song. And the way she says " Wah! Ji Wah! Ji Wah! Ji " as in " Wow"
ji "Wow" Ji "Wow" ji...Simply mind blowing. Vairamuthu has done it yet again
! He made us hunt for the meaning of these words " Aambal & Movval
". Now, with all this, how could A.R.Rahman end this song? I just cant
imagine that A.R.Rahman would have used the " Mmmm... Mmmm.. Mmmm...
Mmmm... Aambal Aambal " chant again to close the song. He has raised
the 'shruthi' slightly higher and gives the chant a new feel. It
just gives u the goosebumps!
Sahana Saaral- *Udit Narayan, Chinmayi, A.R.Rahman [Chant] [ 5 / 5 ]
-
Starts just like that. Sahana...Saraal...Thovadho? and then comes the
music perlude. An excellent african flute piece, along with the heavy
orchestra behind. Simply mind blowing. The second thing u will wonder
here is " Is This Udit Narayan ? " His tamil has improved 100% here. He
has lifted this song up to another level with his rendition. One
would have felt, probably A.R.Rahman could have used another singer for
this song. But after listenin to the other version of Sahana with Vijay
Yesudas, Udit was the perfect Choice ! Next up, the interlude. The
musical piece with A.R.Rhaman's Dheem Dhanana " is just DIVINE !! It
just melts ur heart, and it will make u close ur eyes and just admire
that bit without u noticing u closing ur eyes for that particular time.
Chinmayi, was the highlight of this song. No one, could have missed her
excellent rendition towards the ending of the song. The way the music
rises loud at 3:11 untill the ending of the song, and the music stops
at 5:01, giving a clear route for Chinamyi to end it with her Sahana
raag rendition, simply marverlous !! I wont hessitate to say, thats
the time One would have Felt Goddess Saraswathi! The chorus chant
behind the song during the ending of the song, is simply haunting!
Vairamuthu has done his part. The lyrics " Sahana Saaral Thovatho?
Sahara Pookal Poothatho? ". Would these ever happen?? Thats how special is
LOVE to a person. Picturisation was a letdown, but the ending, with the
lights off and only candle lights on, while Chinmayi's Sahana Raag rendition on, and Camera going up, capturing the WHOLE set in the
frame, Rajini & Shreya walking calmly inside, with the fairies
flapping thier wings slowly, could only bring 1 meaning = PURE DIVINE !
Athiradee - *A.R.Rahman, Sayonara [ 4.5 / 5 ]
-
Powerful starting, with amazing guitar work. And Chorus vocals going "
Sananana Mananana", was very appropriate. The line " Sanja...Manja..."
was very catchy. Loved the various variation of that particular line in
the whole song. Esp during 3:12. The lyrics was simply yet hilarious.
Vaali has done another Muqalla. But the only problem was A.R.Rahman's
singging. It took me a while until I really understood wut he was
saying during the starting of the song " Rathi Thee Thee". To tell u
the truth, I needed to read the lyrics of this song to UNDERSTAND the
song. Sayonara's voice is simply sexy & husky. Very powerful voice,
something like Shakira.
Style - *Rags, Tanvi, Suresh Peters, Blaaze [ 5 / 5 ]
-
Gimme One Time Style, Yea ! Gimme Two Time, Style Yea!! Gimme Three
Time Something!! Awesome voice & high pitch! And there the beats
starts, W O W, and we fancy 50 cent's beats. Very powerful beats &
energy in this song! The "Ae Yo Ae Yo" chant is very very catchy. The lyrics
is explaning about Rajini's style, and second part Rajini was singing
about Shreya's glamour. Rag's voice has made this song sounded very
western, as he does sounds abit like Shaggy. This song's interludes
were very complicating, as it doesnt have a proper structure. But weird
part is, it sounds nice. The ending of this song, simply marverlous!
Love the way A.R.Rahman has done experiment with Blaaze's voice &
the "Gimme 1 time style, yea " along with it. It invokes a powerful
feeling which will just make u feel like moving any parts of ur body to
feel the music & dance along with it, it could be ur fingers, ur
toes or even ur head. A Powerful, Youthful Song !
Sahara Pookal - *Vijay Yesudas, Gomathi Sree [ 4 / 5 ]
-
Amazing flute work on the basic tune. Vijay Yesudas sounds nice, but he
struggles to sing the high pitch portions, which Udit sung it in a very
simple manner. At that point, when u were feeling along with the song,
the part where Vijay Y. struggles it just turns u off. But the flute
piece after it saves the feel. And comes in Gomathi Shree with the
Thirupavai verses. She sounds old, but it doesnt spoils the song. And
after her verse, the music goes in a high volume then comes in the
flute, its just WOW! U just can close ur eyes and go to sleep
peacefully.
The Boss Theme Music - *Blaaze, Naresh Iyer, Raqueeb Aslaam [ 3.5 / 5 ]
-
A complicating song. And very childish https://lyrics. Blaaze as usual with his
rough voice goes unstoppable. Some bits of this theme music was used in
the movie well. Though this music is not listenable as it is in the
Audio CD, it sounds good in the movie.
Sivaji is a perfect
Mixure of Class + Mass. Easily could find a place among the Best of Shankar - Rahman. A.R.Rahman has done his job in Sivaji more than he
was suppose to.
