A Sardar’s effort to reunite his lady love from Romania with her mother in Goa.

No….this is not a sequel to ‘Singh is Kinng’. This is a standalone FLOP product. The two movies are poles apart. If the earlier Singh was King then this Singh is Boring.

I am still trying to recollect what the movie was all about. There was no story, no plot but plenty of garbage. So called Story: Raftaar(Akshay Kumar) is a Sardar who has left studies as well as jobs. He is commanded by his father to either get married or to work for his best friend in Goa. He chooses the latter. Sara(Amy Jackson) is the daughter of an international don & supplier of illegal weapons operating from Romania. His rival has a son, Mark(Kay Kay Menon) whose flirtations are turned down by Sara. Mark kills his father and sets his goal to marry Sara.

In order to avoid Mark, Sara is told to leave Romania for a brief period and she decides to fly to Goa and search for her mother with who she has lost contact. She is put up in Goa at a place of her Dad’s friend where Raftaar is employed. Sara speaks only English. Raftaar speaks only Hindi and is assigned to accompany Sara and provide her security at all times.  Raftaar hires Emily(Lara Dutta) as a translator.  Emily is a ‘chashmish’ and worst dressed woman who is not honest with her translation and tries to balance the lead pair’s relationship.  Sara has brief encounters with local goons and bashes them up in style.  While Raftaar falls in love with Sara, her father is pressurized by Mark in Romania wanting to marry Sara.  She returns to Romania and is later followed by Raftaar who challenges Mark in his territory with the nonsensical dialogue – “Sardar jahan par pair rakhta hai, wo area uska ho jaata hai”. So you know what to expect next.

Plot: There was none. This looked like an unwanted script thrown into the dustbin but then picked up to see if it would work.  Right from the first frame you will realize that you were fooled into watching this movie.  You will find camel and a horse shaking a leg and cows and dogs chatting. What unfolds next will make you regret your decision and wish for the damn movie to get over at the soonest. The script was so bad that the narrative looked weird leaving the editing in shambles. The scenes were predictable and at some places abrupt. The romance between the lead pair was superficial. Sara’s dislike towards Raftaar and the sudden change of heart was unconvincing. Sara even heals Raftaar’s father of his backache by teaching him three seconds breathing exercise.  She falls in love with Raftaar’s family just by being helped with drinking water by Raftaar’s mother. There are utter lousy scenes that can only feature in C grade films thus making this one go downhill.

Cast Performance: Akshay Kumar was underutilized. His role of a Sardar came across bland without any charisma. After acting stupid throughout the film, he fails in his attempt to deliver any sensible dialogue. His character was overshadowed by Amy Jackson who did all the action scenes for him. Amy Jackson was the only one who looked matured and left her mark in the film.  Kay Kay Menon literally doubted his performance and kept reassuring himself “I am too good” until at the end when he asks Amy Jackson “I am too good naa?” He was just passable.  Lara Dutta, the only other recognized actress made a fool of herself without contributing anything valuable to the plot.  She lacked comic sense and was not even sure of what she was doing. Rati Agnihotri as Raftaar’s mother did not add any value either. Rest of the cast was irrelevant.

Direction: Who? Prabhu Deva? Are you serious? This dancer turned director is so bad at directing films that he should really consider limiting his involvement only to dance choreography. He has survived in Bollywood as a director by doing South Indian remakes. That too infested with plenty of unwanted songs coz that is all he is good at. ‘Singh is Bling’ was not a remake so it has exposed his inability to direct films. The screenplay was not only boring but lacked conviction. One can understand a Lion getting out of an unlocked cage, but can the Director explain how the Lion got into a car with closed doors?  Moronic and Senseless would be modest words to describe his direction. The songs were just a sore and dance choreography could have been done better even by a 5 year old.

Conclusion: This movie may initially do well at the Box Office as people may mistake it to be a sequel to ‘Singh is King’, thus expecting good entertainment.  Great disappointment is in store for the viewers. It would be wise to skip this one and save your time and hard earned money for something useful.
