I and my other family memebrs are frequent flyers and have thus tried almost every airline that flies the Indian skies.
Unlike others of the ilk such as Indigo, Spicejet, Go air which make you take an oath never to fly them again, Air Deccan is the best in LCC segment.
They are really a no frills airline, no nonsense, no drama, just good service.
The check in counters perched in a corner of the highly crowded Janata terminals everywhere in our hoplessly outdated airports are heavily crowded and checking in is a harrowing experience. Deccan deserves only 20% blame for having untrained, just on job freshers who barely manage the job of checking in the harried lot of multi colored passengers that any LCC attracts now a days, at least 50% of them being first timers who deserve a mature and deft handling.
The Cabin crew of fresh young faces, most of them from Bangalore are very friendly and efficient though bit untrained and unable to handle the over active passengers-again many of first timers. On board they bring the Food trolly which serves snacks, refreshments and packed food at reasonable prices. Nothing is free except for water. The food quality as well as the quantities are oK. Cafe Coffe day have a tie up.
Schedule are by and large well kept. Not as good as Jet, KF or IA, but not as bad as others LCC's.
For the sheer range of Economical fares and the network of various routes& destination which Deccan serves, I recommend this airline fully.
I regret the predatory takeover of the airline by Kingfisher, and an institution started by Capt.Gopinath, one of independent India's great visionaries came to such a sad end. KF Red is better dead than red!
