''The Sign Of Four'' is probably the second most popular long story about the worlds most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes.
After ''The Hound of Baskervilles'', this book presents the most spellbounding and spine-chilling mystery and enigma for Holmes and his companion Dr. John Watson to unravel.
The story begins with the mention of a new client, Mary Morstan, apart from, of course, the conventional introduction of the protagonist. Miss Morstan seeks Holmes' help to find a certain Mr. Thaddeus Sholto, who, for the last six years has been anonymously sending priceless pearls to Miss Morstan.
Further, the pearls come out to be a part of an ancient Indian treasure, which fell in the hands of the fathers of Morstan and Sholto during the revolt of 1857.
Little do Holmes and Watson know that there is more to come. Before the treasure could be equally divided, Sholto's elder brother, the guardian of the treasure, is found mysteriously murdered in a room locked from the inside, and the treasure itself is stolen...
Believe me friends, there isn't a dull page. The plot follows the action as the Scotland yard chases the fugitives; the chemistry between Holmes and Watson is quite humorously portrayed.
From the brutal massacres of the Indian Revolt to the cool sophisticated ideology of Holmes, the book is extremely quick moving.
A must read.
And guys, make damn sure you don't miss out the part when Holmes explains his elementary.
