The Errors in this movie

Okay, we have heard it all - the movie is good and the performances are high voltage and that the songs suck (except Ganpat!!). The Times of India gave it four star rating and they usually don't give that much easily!!

But here are a few errors which I was able to spot in this movie. Take a look -

  1. Sanjay Dutt and his two assistants are sitting and they are being interviewed by Amitabh Bachhan. The opening dialogue of the movie clearly suggests that this interview is some sort of an inquiry - an in-house departmental inquiry or perhaps a disciplinary proceeding. At no point in time it is suggested that Amitabh Bachhan in their lawyer. This was actually a very stupid thing to do. It confuses the audience

  2. Amitabh Bachhan, who is referred to by the TV reported Diya Mirza and ex-Cheif Justice is again a stupid thing to do. First, cheif justice of where? Mumbai? India? We don't know. And as per my knowledge - ex-cheif justices are not permitted to appear in a court of law. Then what exactly was going on the film - I am not sure I know.

  3. TV Reporter Diya Mirza says that ACP Khan and other have been acquitted of all charges against them. Now this is the biggest f**k up for these reasons -

a. First, it is not clear what exactly are the charges againt them. It is very clearly shown in the film that the whole operation in which Maya and gang was encountered was sanctioned by the cheif cop. When JCP comes to stop Khan on the site of encounter it was actually their chief which said the JCP to get the hell out of there. So the whole operation is legal and permissible. When the encounter is allowed - then was exactly have they done wrong and what are the charges against them is completely out of my understanding.

b. Even if it is assumed that some sort of charges are framed against them, it mean the proceeding in the court as shown in the end of the film is a criminal proceeding. When a criminal proceeding is initiated against a public servant he is always dismissed from services during the pendency of trial. If charges are proved it results in a dismissal and if not then he is reinstated into services. BUT during the trial, when one is suspended they are not allowed to wear the full dress uniform. And in the film Sanjay Dutt and company are wearing full dress uniform and sitting in the audience row. If the are charged then why aren't they standing in the accused box just like all others.

  1. What ACP Khan did was that he encountered 5 gangsters and 1 civillian also died (that ugly fat boy) as collateral damage. What at most can be done against Khan, as suggested in the opening dialogue of the film, is that a disciplinary proceeding can be initiated. And he ends up in a criminal court. I think the story writer has written his new Code of Criminal Procedure!!!

  2. Amitabh Bachhan is arguing in the court of law and in his closing speech he uses the word Your Honour. Outside the court house, Diya Mirza is reporting that Bomaby High Court has acquitted Khan and company from all the charges against them. Now this creates a big confusion because in a High Court the Judge is addressed as My Lord. Will anyone please tell me who wrote the screenplay and the story?

The Biggest Problem with the film is that it offers a very lame excuse for encounter killings. ATS or Anti Terrorist Squad is actually being compared with LAPD SWAT. SWAT and this alleged ATS cannot be compared under any circumstances. Still the story writer makes this daring and unsustainable comparision. Encounter killings can not be justified because they are illegal. We can give a thousand excuses that it is the demand of the day but at the end of the day they remain what they are - ILLEGAL.

Khan says to Maya - "Mere office mein bahut sari files ho gayi hain. Office saaf karne ka ek hi tarika hai, aadmi khatam, file khatam". This is the most stupid, controversial, unacceptable and mafiosi explanation for encounter killings. If that is the way then the whole criminal justice system is worthless. One might curse and say that criminal justice system in India sucks but that is no reason to just kill the criminal. Till a court does not says u r guilty u r constitutionally a free man.

I don't like the explanation and justification given in the movie for encounter killings. Recall the climax dialogue in Gangajal by ACP Amit Kumar (Ajay Devgan) - "Agar yahi chalta raha ho kal ko samaj mein aapke khilaf uthne wali har aawaj ko daba diya jayega." Far more sensible than what ACP Khan says. Though in the end in Gangajal too Amit Kumar ends up killing the criminals.

A thought provoking movie which must not only be seen but also must be studied.

Khagesh Gautam.
