Being a Pakistani, naturally, I have always been a great fan of Shoaib Akhtar's. However, lately I have felt that he is focusing too much on his speed and not on his line and length. If he gets these right, nothing can stop him.
There is no doubt that he is the fastest, but at the end of the day- does speed really matter ? He should learn from greats like Wasim and Lee. I am still a great fan of shoaib's and love to watch his every ball. But sometimes, his bowling is inconsistent and all those extras just let you down.
I live in Kenya and study in a school with many different nationalities who love watching and playing cricket. All my friends: Indians, Pakis, Kenyans and others, love Shoaib. However, they all complain about two things, his bad line and length and sometimes his over- agressive and hostile attitude on the field. Also, his excessive drinking habits and controversy ( the incident with the bollywood guys in South Africa, Bowl tampering and sledging) are quite annoying and force one to dislike this great and exceptional player.
I'd just like to say that if Shoaib was to somewhat change his attitude, keep in form by training and get his line and length right, he would be the best player around in cricket and someone that we would always remember as a legend.
THIS OPINION IS NOT INTENDED TO OFFEND ANY OF SHOAIB'S FANS.
AS I HAVE ALREADY SAID, I TOO AM A FAN, AND I DO UNDERSTAND THAT NO ONE'S PERFECT
