Scrumptious. Review on Shanthi Sagar, Koramangala, Bangalore

If you are in Bangalore this weekend and do not know where to go out for lunch or dinner, I have a nice tasty change for you. One place where you can munch on north Indian tandoori, soak in south Indian sambhar and chutney, chew on Chinese chowmein, grab a bite of a pav bhaji snack, sip a refreshing fresh fruit juice, savour some sweets or even feast on a creamy dessert.

Sagar has become so common out here in Bangalore that the name has become very synonymous with eat outs. The sagar I am talking about is ‘New Shanthi Sagar’

This one is situated in Rajajinagar. It has its outlets all round the city and anywhere you go, you are sure to find at least one shanthi sagar.

Shanthi sagar is a different experience. Firstly, it is a vegetarian restaurant. Secondly it is lower down in hierarchy below say, a 5 star hotels and above the fast food joints and other eateries. It offers a variety in its menu that includes north Indian, south Indian and Chinese specialties. Apart from this they have fruit juices, ice creams, sweets, milk shakes and snacks.

They welcome you with a smile and the service is prompt and good. They have a separate party hall for occasions, which is ideal for get-togethers or bdays. There are 2 floors and the one on the first floor has more of a family aura. They have an air conditioned floor and one non-AC floor. There is no fixed compound as such (it is on the modi hospital main road) and so parking available is outside which I suppose is ample and convenient for the restaurant visitors. The prices are nominal and acceptable. The food is commendable. It is open from 8:00 am to 10:30 pm seven days a week.

A few recommendations go like this

For an evening snack- pav bhaji is really lip smacking. It may not be anything compared to the ones in Bombay or Nasik but this is really good.

Lunch-

Cream of vegetable and veg corn soup are good apart from the universal favorite cream of tomato

For starters any Manchurian dry is preferable

The main course can be kulcha or stuffed paratha with palak matar, hariyali kofta or navrathna kurma.

Followed by mughalai biryani or Kashmiri biryani

Curd rice optional but not essential

You can end with a falooda.

This is if you are going north Indian. The Chinese stuff is also good and no need to mention our own indigenous south Indian specialties.

It is a nice place to visit with family and friends. It may not be really suitable for corporate or executive luncheons though. The place is well kempt and all and is a welcome change once in a while. It helps break the monotone of cafes or coffee bars or pizzerias. Ideal family eat out. Definitely won’t make you abhor it.
