This magazine was launched sometime in the eighties and was immediately successful. The main feature of this mag is the column I Believe. It is very inspirational. You might be wondering why does this chap read a woman's mag?It is because I read anything that comes my way and Savvy really touched a chord in me.
I basically believe in the emancipation of women and I have supported so many causes to support women in our country where the female sex is looked down upon.Even in our so called society we have the so many so called liberated men who are still narrow minded bigots hiding in closets.I have seen it with my own eyes that these so called respectable guys treat women with absolute impunity. But thank God for a few spirited women like Kiran Bedi and Shabana Azmi who have taken it upon themselves the onus of educating women about so many things.
Savvy has done this and a lot more through their columns.I believe has seen so many women change their course of life and find new meaning and conquer demons which they were not able to face before. It is the credit due to the few women who have been bold enough to come forward to share their stories with us.It takes a lot of guts to do all that.
They have the other necessary columns like the household tips and the cookery section.Their last page is really good where they have the Kick on the rear and the Kiss on the cheek.Herein gets revealed the society's hypocrisy where famous folks utter what is on their mind and are castigated or lauded for what they have said.It is very surprising that sometimes women themselves utter anti feminist statements. And guess what? The Taliban has the dubious distinction to feature in the Kick on the rear column a lot of times because of the anti women policies.
All in all Savvy is a good magazine.I am wondering how come no one bothered to write about it in Mouth shut uptil now.Even our Star Writers have ignored it.Read it and tell me whether it makes any difference to your life.I will not mind admitting that once upon a time I did not have that much clarity where women are concerned but Savvy helped me clear a lot of misconceptions.I am grateful to Savvy.
