Last night I happened to attend a music program(SAMSARANA) here in Hyderabad. I was very much moved after seeing a documentary on the great actress life .She is such a great actress tollywood will not have another actress of her caliber, today or even in future.Tough she has THREE in her name she always occupied NO.1 position in the telugu film industry.Even great actors like ANR and NTR films have become popular only because she acted in those films.Her acting talent itself is a film institute and her real life is guide to every celebrity .Born in a simple family in 1936, she died at an young age of 45 in 1981.
She acted in two legendary movies of telugu MISSAMMA and MAYABAZAAR and both have became popular because of her great acting.Her entire acting is famous for BHAVA pradarsana with eyes and feelings.She acted in around 318 films in telugu, tamil, malayalam, kannada and hindi movies without dubbing. she acted in all types of movies(social, mythalogical and janapadha).She was acclaimed as one of the three best actresses in India of her time 9other two being MEENA KUMARI and SUCHITRA SEN) by a noted Bengali producer.
She believed everybody and was deceived by her own people and in that depression she has become a alcoholic and drug addict and almost lost her entire wealth and some of her friends helped her for treatment. She was in coma for 18 months and died on dec 26th 1981, but she and her films are permanent in the hearts of telugu and tamil people, people still are seeing the films she acted in same interest.
Savitri was a very simple and generous person, she constructed a school inGuntur and one day she went to meet then PM sri Lal Bahadur Sashtri and she donated her all her jewelry to PM's relief fund.
I salute the great nata siromani and mahanati SAVITRI, the most important thing is she didnot get any official award from any Govt.
