Dear Sis,
How are you? How is Ragesh bhaiyya? Convey my warm regards to him, Ragam didi, uncle and aunty.
I am doing well here. Bangalore is blessed with a great climate. The crime rate is well maintained too! The other day, a lady in my neighborhood was screaming at the top of her lungs after her purse was snatched. I went over and slapped her. Disturbing my peace of mind late night! These days, my assignments from the boss are less, so more free time. Blame it on the season, I guess.
I took advantage by going to the movies and watching Sarkar. Yaar, wohi starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek and Katrina doll. Arey, missed Godfather when I had the chance but thiz movie amply compensated for it. Kya bataon apko, I'm not a fan of stark movies. Truth be told, I hate Sarkar! Why did Ram Gopal Varma direct a grim tale of muscle power? There are no rights and wrongs, only power - says the tagline of the movie. I'm afraid, watching Sarkar has begun to deeply influence my conscience and redefine my meaning of justice. Sis, do you remember my college days when I was ragged shamelessly? The next day, I quit and joined a Christian institution where the rules were stricter. Now, I feel ashamed. I should have reshaped the brains of those seniors with a dumbbell! Give me strength, O Lord! I hate violence......Coming back sis, the Sarkar's house shown in the movie is a big, rusting haveli having no modern touches. Armed men of all ages and physique stand at every nook and corner unsmiling and silently professing their undying loyalty to their leader, Subhash Nagare 'Sarkar'. Btw, that's Amitabh's name in the movie. Actually, he is no underworld don. He forms a 'parallel government' fighting for the rights of the poor by pure muscle power (if need be). Abhishek as Shankar Nagare and Kay Kay as Vishnu Nagare are his sons. The former is decent while the latter is wayward & dangerous. The underworld dons in the city have a tough time running their business due to the uprightness of Sarkar. So, they influence Vishnu against his father. The rift within the family gradually widens and the final showdown is ugly, shocking & sad. The dialogues are hatke. None of the scenes dragged unnecessarily. Amitabh is perfectly cast as the Sarkar who's soft to the downtrodden & innocent and ruthless to the evil. Who else could have performed the same role with equal elan? Abhishek as his obedient son who gradually takes over the mantle of Sarkar in the end brings the house down. His facial expressions and dialogues at critical moments in the movie brought wild whistles from the audience....Ring, ring....Kay Kay as Vishnu was deadly too....ring, ring....He reminds me of a villainous Manoj Bajpai in Satya. But I hope he doesn't get typecast as a baddie in the future...ring, ring...ring, ring...
''Arey, who's this?''
''Saar, it's me Bikru''
''Arey, ##@ ki #@##, I am busy now. Can't you call later?''
''Sorry saar. Boss called an hour ago with a new assignment. About 3 college boys eve-teasing with the Mayor's girl. I have their details and the vehicle is waiting outside.''
''Kya karna hai? Should I blow the wickets?''
''No saar. Boss told only to ensure that the batsmen are never able to play any more matches!''
''Teek hai. So pack only hockey sticks and cycle chains in the back seat. I'll come soon.''
''Teek hai saar.'' Click
Sorry sis, I was wrong. My company is getting new projects and I will be busy once again. I got a new assignment now and must leave soon. But let me finish Sarkar first. Katrina Kaif as Abhishek's girlfriend looks lovely but acts nervous. Tanisha (Kajol's younger sister) as Avantika who secretly loves Abhishek is gorgeous and acts well too. Don't smile now, I know what you're thinking. Sorry, my girlfriend left me a week ago. Says my job is too risky. Poor fool! Which job these days is not risky, tell me? Anyway, I wish her the best in life. To sum up, sis, Sarkar is another milestone in RGV's career. But he should stop these 'underworld' type movies. The violence is beginning to get on my nerves. He should now focus more on family-oriented cinema. I heard that RGV feels this is his best movie ever. I don't like that attitude. He should not rest on his achievements.
Let him continue to make good, sensitive cinema for both the masses and the classes or else mar dalega usko!
with love,
Manoj
