Hack your Life!. Review on Saints Row IV

Saints Row IV is a direct sequel to Saints Row: The Third. And the biggest difference between the two games is the arrival of superheroes(I’ll expand on that note later). Having superpowers is awesome – for a while. But after the initial excitement, you get bored because when you have superpowers nothing can stand in front of you way.

The story of Saints Row Iv starts off with us being stopping a nuclear warhead from detonating. But the awesome part is that we’re the President of the United States. The fun only lasts for a while because then we get invaded by a group of aliens called the Zin. The leader of the Zin, Zinyak, abducts almost everyone and puts us into a kind of mind-hell in which we are placed with our worst fears. When Kinzie and Keith David busts us out we try to take on Zinyak but he gets all angry and blows up the Earth. And then Kinzie says that we can defeat Zinyak using the simulation and so we go back into the simulation and we hack it and hack it and give us superpowers and do all the Saints Row-ey stuff. The simulation is named as Steelport.

Saints Row IV retains all of its humor, fun and excitement from the previous games. And it has certainly not left behind the utter craziness which is offered to us in SR3. The game play is all very similar to SR3 with all the same activities such as Mayhem, Insurance Fraud and my favourite Mr.Genki. But like I said the main difference is the arrival of superpowers. You get four main superpowers- Blast, Buff, Telekinesis and Stomp. There are some sub-superpowers which are a part of these four. And as I said earlier, the introduction of superpowers is a boon as well as a curse. The good news is there’s not much you can’t do in SR4 and that is also the bad news. The game feels unchallenging.

There are a few twists and turns in the game. I won’t reveal any twists but I’ll give clues. A very important former character is introduced in the game. The second thing I won’t reveal is that there are 2 endings for the game.

Saints Row 4 is a fun game and there is not much I didn’t like. It’s a very interesting and fun to play game and it trumps other games in humor and absurdness. But I still feel that Saints Row 3 is better than this one. I’m not saying SR4 is a bad game, but it could’ve limited the role of superpowers in the game.
