South Super Hero, Rajanikant has reasons to joy. His Endiran/Robo is rocking the box office all across the world. Robot, the Hindi version didn't receive the same reception though. I choose my luck with the Hindi version and wonder why the movie makers didn't promote and release it widely where it had all the potential to be a hit even in Hindi.
If there is a child in you the movie is a must watch for you. For the children, it is a visual treat and a not to miss film is this. That is right. There is nothing to take serious in this film, but it is all fun. The movie has all it requires to entertain a light hearted viewer and what else an average audience expects?
It is a story of a scientist, Dr Vaseegaran (Rajnikant) who creates an extra brilliant multi task Robot (Chitti, Rajnikant). The scientist even succeeds in generating feelings for the machine but along with arrive problems.
Shankar is a director who believes in Marco film making. Robot is another bold attempt which will be marked as the 'first' in many respects in Indian cinema. Never before, we witnessed such a huge film for its technology use. In Hollywood, it is normal and for people who watch Hollywood films regularly it may not be new but for Indian film industry, this is a film which brings change. Shankar made sure that his new outing meets the expectation and more. Salute to Shankar, the director of extravaganza.
Rajnikant is the Super Hero of the south in all respects. From childhood, I admired Rajni films with all its style and glamour. What attracts me was his quest for success and attempt to motivate the audience. In his 60s, if Rajni can do a Robot, I am sure my respect is not out of place. Rajni is superb in the film will be an understatement where the entire film belongs to him. Aishwarya struck gold with Robot, where her earlier R outing with Mani Ratnam was not that successful. It is not that the film had challenging scenes for her, but the screen presence and the romance jelled well with the film and the flow. Danny Denzongpa was good.
Cinematography is very good. Editing could have been better. 10 to 15 minutes could have been trimmed easily from the film.
Songs and Choreography are not upto mark, especially when we consider the names associated with it. AR Rahman nearly failed in Robot. R used to be lucky for Rahman, but this year seems R is not so lucky...probably he should attempt a D film now, which was unlucky so far. If we compare the choreography to other movies it may felt good, but if one compare it with other Shankar movies, they do not meet the expectation. One or two songs are quite good though.
Story, Screenplay and dialogues are good. Writers given a balance to the story and made sure that there is not many flaws to distract audience attention.
Climax scenes of the movie compensates the ticket money's worth and the pop corn. Creative imagination supported by resources and talents, it is a dream climax.
Overall, the movie is very good light entertainer but it is a kind of film which comes once in a blue moon and don't miss it when it is around. Your children will love you more for taking them to theatres with you.
