While the great Goan food is out there waiting to be discovered in shacks on the beaches of Goa...there's some good stuff to be had even in the heart of Panjim.
Riorico at the Hotel Mandovi is easily accessible(on the riverfront)...and has a good variety of Goan food..
A meal for two including drinks, 2 plated main courses and dessert cost us about Rs 600/-.
What we tried:
Chicken Cafreal Sizzler- The hunt for the best chicken cafreal in Goa continued for us here..and Riorico came pretty close to topping the list...(haven't quite found the best yet!)...
Goan Mutton Fry-Ordered this with naans...the ry comes with boiled eggs fried into it as well...an unusual sort of dish..a little on the spicy side-we'd pass on this next time.
Tender Coconut Mousse- A must-have!Mildly flavoured and subtly sweet...a great end to the meal.
Service: Friendly,efficient and quick.
Timings: They're open for breakfast but churn out run of the mill puri-sabzi and idli-sambar-skip it!They're open for lunch...around 1pm is a good time...
Dinner time starts at 7.30..but if you land up early they seat you at the bar on the balcony which is nice...and you can order your meal while watching the boats on the river drift by...move in around 8 and enjoy a candle-lit dinner!
