Of Old wines and New Bottles...

Talking of remixes.there is this young lass called Smita or something who apparently remixes old songs and even dances for them(how nice!). And through her, I came to know that there is something known as REMIX. That was some two years back.

Now, remixes are not uncommon. Especially in Hindi cinema where there is a song in a film and a remix is also provided with it.(Like Aksar, Bluffmaster.). But in tamil cinema.and remixing.well, is that quite related? I mean, once in a while you hear these odd remixes of old MGR songs and they are unfortunately pretty BAD. Like the'vaseegara remix' from Minnale( heard it?) was disappointing. But on the good side, 'Injeerippilage' by Smita was awesome.

Talking of remixing old songs, a popular Carnatic musician said that they(remixes) are just old wines in new bottles. Well, it is true that most of the remixes today are purely done by adding some beats in the background to the old songs. But aren't they a little more .CHEERFUL than the old songs? Like the remix called Indi-yarn in Bluffmaster. It is so good that it is hard to believe that it is actually a remix.

Today, remixes are made to attract the so-called youth, and so music directors go overboard(like the remix of'Bombay nagariya' from Taxi no 9211). Yes, remixes are hot and happening, but that's no reason why an old melody along with background beats should be called a remix.

So, my VERDICT: There should definitely be more remixes, which are original in their own way.
