I have some expectations with Taapsee movie and I think this movie has tried to keep up the expectations. Like another sports movie here too the main character has Natural athletic talent but she doesn't wanna pursue it due to personal reasons. She has a very supportive family. Then comes an army officer (captain) who sees that the girl's talent shouldn't be wasted and somehow convinces her to participate in sports. As usual, she shines in the events in which she participates. So she is compelled to be considered for representing the Indian sports (athletics). There is as usual some politics involved here. And the entire journey till here is also shown at a faster pace i.e. from identifying her talent till getting into Indian team. Then she undergoes rigorous training. She befriends few fellow mates and also gets some competitors who are jealous of her. She misses her mom and her boyfriend. She slowly gets used to the training and she is prepared for D Day. Her jealousy competitors have their own plans for her.
At the same time entire nation is waiting for her achievement. Yes, she wins as per the expectations of all. But then there comes the twist but as expected she is suddenly taken by someone for series of tests. They (sports associations ) play mind games with her and hurt her mentally. Sudden police enter into lady's hostel and arrest Taapsee (Rocket) saying they got a complaint from someone that a boy has entered into lady's hostel and is causing trouble to the girl over there. Here they show male policemen arresting the lady ( as if they know her gender). Suddenly does the entire coverage and the lady becomes a "Shame from national fame".
She is banned and she doesn't fight back. But yes she is always supported by her Mom, fellow competitors and her boyfriend. She is scattered and she doesn't think of fighting back even though she doubts the entire thing. Then there comes a lawyer who has always wanted to fight for such causes. He not only wants to fight for Rocket but for those sports women who are put to gender tests due to which they have either lost lives or career. Initially, she doesn't want to file a case against the sports association. Meanwhile, she gets married to her army boyfriend (an army Major now). He supports her always and keeps boosting her confidence. Finally, she decides to file a case and now we are also interested to see how the lawyer is going to handle the case. Initially, we can see that Rocket's side is very weak and the association's side is very strong. They feel that the case can't stand at all as the tests are shown to be taken with her full consent. But yes after initial hiccups the judge is convinced and she takes the case into trial.
The main argument is that her testosterone levels are higher than what it should be normally for a lady. Her lawyer tries to show how things were conspired against her. But initially, he couldn't succeed in bringing out the connectivity between the policemen and the association fellows. Meanwhile, Rocket with the help of her husband keeps training hard so that she can participate in the athletics event coming in near future once her ban gets lifted. She breaks in between and she immediately comes back too. Everyone wants her to win and come back. They try hard and it is seen that they are losing the case as they can't show any strong evidence against the conspiracy. Suddenly there is a twist here, Rocket becomes pregnant during her training sessions. They are happy in a way, they are also confused if they can continue her training and what will happen to her competition if the ban on her gets lifted. She gets full support from her mother and hubby. Her lawyer is happy with her pregnancy news as it will be a key factor for them to show that Rocket belongs to which gender and thus can win the case lifting her ban. But yes Rocket is very clear that the case was not filed just only for Rocket but for all those sportswomen who are simply humiliated by the gender test thus causing them to end their lives or career. Her lawyer also doesn't want to argue saying that Rocket is pregnant. He gets the information of the call record that took place between the policeman and the person who called from the hostel. Thus the connection is established between the arrest, gender tests and a senior selector ( father of another athlete). Opinions of experts are also got regarding gender tests a d testosterone levels.
Finally, Rocket's lawyer wins the argument and emphasizes how there can be special people in any sport similarly there can be women with high testosterone levels. He says that Rocket is an asset to the nation and hence her ban should be lifted so that she can participate in sports in future and bring fame to the nation. He says that India should not simply go by the international laws (sports) like these gender tests instead it should stop using such tests which are kind of void and also spoils the career of ladies. Finally, after all the hearing is over Rocket's lawyer reveals that Rocket is 3 month's pregnant and they did not want to use this thing to win their case. They wanted justice for all the ladies who were affected by this gender test. Judge gives a good ending by punishing the corrupted ones and lifting the ban on Rocket and also asking the sports association to not to go by these tests. Finally, Rocket won the case. Senior selector resigns from his post. His daughter for whom he did all these is also shown to be And yes there is a drama in the climax showing how the pregnant Rocket is participating in the athletics event representing all the affected sportswomen.
