Today I saw Raees and from the beginning it didn't feel good to me. It potrays a guy named Raees selling alcohol in a larger than life image. He tries to eliminate anyone who is any threat to his business. He bribes everyone from ministers to police inspectors and corrupts the whole system. Yet the movie shows him in a good light and the outcome was that evryone in the movie hall was euphoric about him.
I am thinking of impressions it will make on the young minds of our society.
Raees is never in favor of communal partition or bias. He is also helpful to needy people of society.(Strangely he uses these same people as a means to help his ulterior motives in his business.) These two are the only good characteristics that I found in him in the entire movie.
Yet he is a shrewd business man and can go to any extent to make more money. His business is selling of liquor via illegal means and story revolves around his activities, rather crime I should say, to make it profitable.
I know lots of people may be thinking that a movie is for entertainment and I should not associate it with any thing else. I have a option not to watch the movie. But how will this stop young masses from associating pride and ego with crimes?
An average young mind watching this movie will perceive that ethics and morals do not matter if their business is concerned. Everything that is threat to their business( e.g. alcohol smuggling was the most profitable business of Raees) is expendable, even though alcohol consumption costs numerous lifes every day.
Inebriated people are responsible for most of the road accidents, tension in relationships and break ups. Why parents of prospective grooms and brides search for someone who never drinks or smokes in matrimony sites?
I just had a discussion with my friend and he believes I am no one to force my opinion upon others. He also thinks young people will be put under control by their parents. I just have one analogy for him and some readers who are thinking in the same vein.
What happens to you when you listen to soulful, melodious musical composition? It definitely lightens you, fills you with vigor and refreshes your mood. What happens when you listen to trash music? Don't you feel like te world will come to an end?
Even though we may believe we are resistant to our environment, we are not truly independent of it. They affect our moods, energy level, thinking patterns and opinions. Movies or any creative art form shapes us in subtle ways.
Last scene shows Nawazudin asking in retrospect whether he did the right thing by killing Raees or not. I leave you all to analyze that.
Well I heard, Kabil is much much better than Raees.
