My daughter was diagnosed for pulmonary artresia with VSD next day following her birth. We consulted renowned pediatric cardiologist Dr.Biswajit Bandopadhay. Under his supervision, she was admitted in R.N Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences on 14th July, 2019 just 3 days after her birth, Then starts our real agony. 16th July, 2019 was the first planned day for my daughter's ductal stenting. As per hospital rules, we deposited full package money i.e.Rs.239000 on 15th July, 19. But till 16th morning, Dr.Bandopadhay haven't have seen my daughter's any of the reports, only his team has seen.
Now, 16th July 19 morning, the RMO named Dr.Ritajyoti Sengupta informed us that baby has already been given anesthesia and have been put in ventilator support as per pre-cath lab procedures. We as non-medical people thought that it is normal procedure for my baby's critical operation. At 11:30am 16th July, Dr.Bandopadhay came to the NICU for his first visit to my daughter. And he said that ductal stenting cannot be done due her large ductus size and they will attempt tomorrow again. Not for a single moment did we suspected any foul play.
Then this above mentioned whole process continued for next 11days, like putting my daughter under anesthetics and ventilator support and ultimately, postponing the ductal stenting procedure citing the fact large ductus size. We were completely in shock why to put the baby in ventilator support and under anesthetics so many times without any confirmation for the procedure. No valid answer was given to us. Dr.Ritajyoti Sengupta, the duty RMO said that the anatomy of my baby is bad and if Dr.Bandopadhay cannot do anything no-one can. Dr.Sengupta as a doctor without giving us hope he gave us grief and despair and we were all shattered.
On 25th July 19, they released my daughter with a whooping bill of Rs.285000. They did not do any procedures or any operations. When asked for clarification for various drugs named in the bill, the RMO had no valid answer. One of the surgical item which we were confirmed could never have been used, upon clarification was removed from the bill and the amount was refunded. Visit of Pediatrician named Dr.Indranil Roy Chowdhury was billed for 5times with each visit amounting to Rs.1250, whereas we have never seen him neither he gave us any consultation. When my daughter was released, her little feet were swollen, there were multiple pricks on her hand and legs for which they couldn't give any valid answer, she was wrapped in a torn piece of bed pad tied with gauge.
After her release, we consulted another hospital in Kolkata, where they like true professional doctors carried out my daughter's ductal stenting procedure and released her in a stable condition within 4days. There we were priced for the same procedure only Rs.160000. I do not understand why so much of difference for the same procedure. I really appreciate and commend those doctors who saved my daughter's life and gave us a reason to live.
This is not matter of money but it is beyond that. They have played with us keeping my daughter's life as bait
