This is a review of PVR cinemas situated inside Lulu international shopping mall in Edappilly, Ernamkulam.
If you go to movies, you go to PVR cinemas inside Lulu mall in edappilly. This is not just a state of the ark facility for seeing movies but also a place with great hospitality.
PVR cinemas is one of the largest cinema chains in India.
The company roots its origins way back to 1978, thats when Ajay Bijli's(MD) father bought Priya Love Vikas Cinema in Vasant Vihar in South Delhi.
The Bijli family, a distributor of Hollywood films in India started the multiplex business in 1997 in association with Village Roadshow pictures, an Australian media company, with the launch of PVR Anupam in Saket, city's first multiplex.
In 2003 ICICI invested 40 Cr into the business when Vilage roadshow decided to pull out.
PVR found striking success in the box office during the 21st century beginning when the multiplex moolah became the catchphrase among the public. In 2012, it acquired 70% stakes in Cinemax thus making it India's largest cinema chain business.
The state has only one PVR screen which is situated in edappilly, kochi. There are 9 screens in this cinema hall showing 9 different movies in a variety of languages ranging from malayalam, tamil, hindin. English etc.
Last week I went to watch Interstellar 2D in PVR. Eventhough the movie was in 2d, the effects were outstanding.
The screen resolution was 1280*720 p above and the sounds were high pitched on 5.1 surround speakers. Before the movie began, it showed the trailor of Moby Dick and I was bloody impressed by the time it finished.
The ambience is cool. Air conditioned room can sit up to 175-200 Audiences in one hall. The seating is a bit congested and the pushback isn't all that luxury. There are cup holders in each side of the seat so that you can have snacks and drink water while and then you watch the movie.
The cinema is located in the second floor of the mall. The space covers atleast 71000 Sq ft in total.
The ticket rates are affordable ranging from a minimum of70 rs for week day morning shows that Can go as high as 300 on weekend first shows.
The only thing that is costly in PVR is the food from the cafeteria outside. One large bucket of popcorn costs 180rs and the funny thing is it will atleast 3 people to finish the popcorn.
For individual viewers there is the combo pack costing 210 ode rs and consisting of a small cup of popcorn(compared to the bucket its small) a glass of pepsi and lays.
Overall the service was good. The hospitality was excellent.
I am yet to watch any 3D movie here but still the gee whiz wonder of watching a space opera inside pvr halls is one of the many pleasures of life. Highly recommended.
